Blizzard announce the Heroes of The Storm Spring Global Championship

Heroes of the Storm slowly became the toast of 2015 with a successful launch and televised events throughout the year, ending in the World Championship at BlizzCon 2015. South Africa also had it’s fair share of Heroes action with the inaugural tournament at rAge last year hosted by GameArena and NavTV. While South African HoTS has somewhat calmed down, globally it’s still on the rise with the latest news being the Spring Global Championship, proving 2016 will be the year for the new MOBA.

Following in the footsteps of both League of Legends and Dota 2, last year at BlizzCon it was announced that in 2016 Heroes of The Storm would feature its very own global circuit of three major championships, culminating in the World Championship at BlizzCon. The circuit will feature tournaments in Australasia, China, Europe, Korea, The Americas, Southeast Asia and Taiwan selecting only the best who will feature at each leg of the circuit. The Championship Circuit will also feature a total prize pool of $4 million.

Below are all the details, courtesy of Blizzard, regarding the championship circuit, more specifically the Spring Championship leg.

Spring Global Championship

The Spring Championship leg will be held on the 1st to 3rd of April in Seoul, South Korea. The tournament will feature teams from the above mentioned regions who will host their own qualifiers prior to the event. The Spring Championship will feature a prize pool of $500,000.

Australia/New Zealand – Season 1 Regional

• Dates: January 30 – February 28
• Location: Preliminaries online; Finals live streamed from Sydney, Australia
• Partner: ESL
• Prize Pool: $20,000

China – Gold League

• Dates: January 15–24
• Location: Shanghai, China
• Partner: NetEase / NeoTV
• Prize Pool: $100,000

Europe – Spring Regional

• Dates: March 5–6 (Finals)
• Location: Preliminaries online; Finals in Katowice, Poland
• Partner: ESL
• Prize Pool: $100,000

Korea – Super League

• Dates: January 12–March 20
• Location: Preliminaries online; Finals in Seoul, South Korea
• Partner: OGN
• Prize Pool: $200,000

Latin America – Copa America

• Dates: January 25–March 19
• Location: Preliminaries online; Finals in Brazil
• Partner: VIU / BRMA
• Prize Pool: $18,500

North America – Spring Regional

• Dates: February 27–28 (Finals)
• Location: Preliminaries online; Finals in Los Angeles, California
• Partner: ESL
• Prize Pool: $100,000

South East Asia – Spring Regional

• Dates: January 16–March 6
• Location: Preliminaries online and offline;  SEA finals online, cast live from Singapore

This is definitely going to a great year for Heroes of The Storm, especially since  Activision Blizzard have placed an almost annoying amount of energy into eSports in 2016. I say annoying because they’re constantly all over the news. While some have said MOBAs are beginning to plateau, I think Heroes of the Storm have just started their up-hill climb.
