There are already an influx of hackusations in Overwatch

Police

It has been a busy few weeks for the Overwatch Police as two professional players have been accused of using aimlock in Blizzard’s new title Overwatch. The game already has an aspiring professional scene after being in the beta phase for several months. While this alleged hacking scandal has not been proven, the evidence put forward by the Overwatch Police (a YouTube Channel) seems pretty damning for two players in the North American team Cloud9 and EnvyUs.

Taimou

Timo “Taimou” Kettunen is a French player for Team EnvyUs, a well respected MGO in the eSports world who were one of the first to pick up a professional Overwatch team. The team has competed in a number of professional tournaments with Taimou often standing out. He has appeared on the Overwatch Police radar a number of times, and while this may be just raw skill, the detectives seem to feel Taimou might be receiving some assistance. Take a look and tell us what you think.

There is a second clip where it seems his “alleged aimlock” bugs out when Mercy uses her revive.

There are a few more clips of Taimou floating around the internet where he gets the most incredible shots with Widowmaker, and while some would argue he’s a really talented player (as some already are) others are very skeptical and strongly believe he is a cheater.

Surefour

Lane “Surefour” Roberts is a Canadian player in Cloud9, one of he top North American MGOs. He was one of the first players I saw accused of hacking when this popped up yesterday. I’ve seen a lot of FPS hacking in my life, and it’s pretty easy to spot an aimlock system from a mile away. Seriously, though, it literally locks on people. Surefour, or now better knonw as Surelock, has denied these claims on stream, but there are several videos out there of him getting incredible plays as McCree and Tracer with some incredible “aim.” Let’s take a look shall we?

There’s even a video of him wowing the shoutcasters in a competitive match with his fancy Tracer plays…

Of course the Overwatch Police is just a community driven channel, and these accusations are out there for the community to decide. The evidence seems pretty damning, but unfortunately Blizzard are the Sheriff, Judge and Jury when it comes to these sort of things and it is up to them to do something about it. Will they? I don’t know.

I must however apologize to Blizzard. I was very skeptical that they would ruin Overwatch as an eSport, but it seems some of the professional players have taken it upon themselves to ruin the game before it even has a chance… allegedly.

    Besides the [mssc] that’s implied.

These are both quite obvious hacks. I hope Blizzard does something about this. What happened to good old fashioned reflexes & skill?

On Taimou the first clip I cant really tell. But the second clip clearly shows how the cursor flicks on to an enemy players head multiple times when Mercy revives and the targeted player is invulnerable while the revive animation plays.

Yeah it’s really obvious – as is the tracking in the last clip on Reinhard. Nobody is THAT smooth with their tracking, not in a fast-paced game like this. I hope both these players earn a perma ban for this.

Tracer is all over the place, keeping a cursor on head shot level while you are jumping and enemy is jumping can not be 100% like in the clip, that was an aim bot.

A little look into Taimou’s steam profile, looks like a lot of people are accusing him of the same hacks in TF2 from months back.

No VAC ban on his account. Who knows maybe he really has a memory wrist that can pinpoint the same distance 4 times a second.

You don’t get VAC banned for hacking in a blizzard game.

A few friends and I are gonna buy it. Hella expensive, but the Beta won me over real hard. Latency has also not really been an issue so far.

Games hella fun, Beta ended yesterday and I just can’t play anything else. It’s a very team based game though, so long term enjoyment will rely heavily on whether or not you can assemble a squad to play this with consistently imo.

anyone who’s played Tracer in the beta knows that you don’t just kill another player at full health with one clip…. It might be possible if you don’t miss at all with consistent head shots…
Also had my fair share of aimbots during the beta…. ughhh…..

mmm my aim is good enough to hit most those shots in the first clip, wasnt that impressive and most defs dont think it was hacking just good reactions. Second dude was a bit dodgy how he followed the players perfectly while they were jumping around and while he was speeding past people .

Is it really that surprising? The game may not be released, but has been in “beta” since at least November of last year. And during that time there’s been a handful of sanctioned tourney’s as well. It’s a pretty visible game with a ton of folks wanting/receiving access during that time for a AAA beta.

Met a couple of hackers in the open beta.
I googled around, and found that there are already hacks available for the game on some very popular hack sites.

The youtube clips show some obvious hacks going on.
And for gods sake, it’s called aimbot, not aimlock.

    Blizz-
“Our in-game camera system does not always play back footage at the same fidelity as real-time gameplay (this loss in fidelity applies to the killcam, Plays of the Game, Highlights, and—to a lesser extent—the spectator camera as well). This can sometimes result in a player’s aim appearing more snappy or less fluid in playback than it did in-game.

With the above, there may be bugs with the in-game camera system that affect playback footage. In the Closed Beta, we actually had a bug that caused the killcam and spectator camera angle to suddenly “snap” whenever Zarya cast Particle Barrier or Projected Barrier. While we’re unaware of any issues with the camera system at present, undiscovered bugs are always a possibility to consider.”

I watch these players regularly and have watched many other games that require immense amounts of tracking. To call this hacks would be ignorant and very insecure. It is not among the best plays I have seen either. As for the the flicking to the head during the res could simply be him preparing the flick upon the res… We have see this many times in cs:go as well. There’s a famous clip of Scream doing a similar thing on Dust2 ramp.
