Aku

Long ago in a distant land, I Akartoon Network the shape-shifting master of darkness unleashed an unspeakable evil of cancelling cartoons! But, a foolish animator wielding a magic cult following stepped forth to oppose me. [Insert sword effects here]. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in hiatus and flung him into the future where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to the networks, and undo the future that is Akartoon!

It has been way, way too long since a certain Samurai by the name of Jack has been on a small screen. That all changes soon however, as Samurai Jack is coming back, for one final stab at finishing a story that began over a decade ago. Yep, the newest season of Samurai Jack will also be its last. That’s the word coming out of the Annecy Animation Festival in France, which gave audiences a look at the new Samurai Jack. And it looks like Jack isn’t holding back in his final ten part series, which will form one massive five hour movie:

Samurai Jack s5

DAMN. According to reports from Toonami Faithful, Samurai Jack will take place fifty years after the end of season 4. Adult Swim has a brief storyboard up at this link that features Aku, which hints at the world finally having had enough of that demon as a rebellion builds against his rule. That fifty year gap is massive however. Way back in the season 3 episode “Jack and the Traveling Creatures”, the Samurai met a warrior that handed him ass in much the same way that Brock Lesnar destroys gravity whenever he organises a tour group to Suplex City.

That episode may have ended in a loss for Jack, but it also showed a glimpse of the future. A future of a much older Jack who has become a king in Aku’s wasteland:

King-Jack

And that fifty year gap, sounds like some prime narrative that is begging to be explored. There’s no word yet on when exactly Samurai Jack returns, although Adult Swim has it pegged for a 2016 release on their Toonami block as Genndy Tartakovsky and his crew work on finishing a story that began all the way back in 2001.

Not his fault! It is the story writer’s fault!

He should attack the story writer then, clearly he’s in league with Aku

Well, in the chapter “Jack vs. Aku” Aku sums it up nicely – Jack beats up Aku and Aku, being the shape-shifting master of darkness that he is, turns to some tiny flying creature and escapes every time. Jack doesn’t put Aku in an incredibly escape friendly asylum, he’s trying to put him in a permanent state of dead.

And once he’s dead that’s the end of the series…. Now I know why Batman never kills 😛
