LOGAN finds its villain in Richard E. Grant

Logan

After a little build up with some teaser trailers and, of course, the full trailer that had everyone crying over Johnny Cash again, we’ve heard very little else about Logan. There’s been a bit of information from director James Mangold, but it was all very vague. Obviously they’re keeping their lips sealed on this one. You can’t blame them, but damn we would like to know a little more!

Well, courtesy of main man Hugh Jackman, we now know who the villain is going to be. Jackman tweeted this photo of Richard E. Grant earlier, revealing who Logan‘s adversary is going to be. Like other photos we’ve seen from Logan, this one was shot in stark black and white with Grant partially illuminated. The photo itself doesn’t tell us overly much. The caption, however, tells us what we need to know: “Rice. Logan. 3.3.17”

So Grant will be playing Dr. Zander Rice, the scientist responsible for the creation of X-23. As we know Dafne Keen is playing X-23 (a.k.a. Laura Kinney), Grant’s character and his purpose in the film is starting to come together. Rice’s father was one of the scientists on the original Weapon X program, but was killed when Wolverine escaped. So, Rice definitely has a personal stake in this one. It remains to be seen exactly what he’ll be doing in the movie, but I suspect he’s going to be the shadowy puppet master behind the scenes, and will probably play a big role in the final confrontation.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen and Richard E. Grant, Logan will be hitting cinemas on March 3, 2017.

Grant plays a very good bad guy. But hey, any good actor plays a good guy. They’re so much fun to sink into. You get to be the bastard you’re not allowed to be in real life.
