Need for speed

I like to think that I have a pretty solid grasp on reality. I know real life when I see it, and I know gameplay when I see it. Sure racing games may blur that line a bit, but I can still tell the difference, right? Well, maybe not so much with Need for Speed.

Here is a new gameplay teaser for the trailer that will be released during E3 on 15 June.

According to the video description, Need for Speed will release Fall 2015 (so, our Spring) to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The new NFS game will feature deep customisation, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that pulls you through the game.

I just can’t believe how gorgeous the game is looking. The physics, the realism, the stunning aesthetic – Need for Speed is looking mighty beautiful. I am so impressed with just this short snippet – obviously we’ll see more in the coming months. But so far, it is pretty enough to rival any of the other top notch new generation racing games.

Here’s what EA says in the press release:

“Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we’re returning it to greatness in this reboot,” said Ghost Games’ Marcus Nilsson,

“Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We’re listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”

It’s interesting that this isn’t Underground 3. This isn’t a sequel or iteration in the franchise – it seems the plan is to reboot the whole thing for a new generation of gamers, and I think people have some pretty high standards for racing games this generation. Between the flops of DriveClub and The Crew and then the successes of Forza and Project Cars, gamers are used to the new driving games this generation looking stunning. Need for Speed is promising something even more and I think fans are ready for whatever they offer.

This looks promising for an arcade racer. Maybe they’re going back to their roots where you didn’t start the game with a Porsche and actually had to work your way up. After the terribly implemented new Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted I’ve been wanting a new NFS game of some good quality.
Knowing EA though, it’ll probably be riddled with DLCs, like Rivals, so I’m not holding thumbs, but I will be cautiously optimistic.

      Agreed.
I just hope they return a proper monetary system. The last few games were so damn stupid. You either randomly find a 2million Rand car standing around that you can just have, or you “unlock” it. How dumb.
You need to EARN your car and your upgrades by making money, by winning races.
      Okay, that’s my rant.

They can add DLC as well, just give us a chance to unlock the stuff through grinding. don’t just put up a pay wall with a sign that says deal with it.

Unfortunately in today’s world it seems people want instant gratification. Having to work to get something? Where is the fun in that? Sad, as working your way up to that awesome car was one of the things that made the NFS games fun to play in my opinion.

Exactly. They even did that with GRID 2. (RIP RaceDriver series)
I suppose we’ll wait and see. Maybe EA really is listening to its customers.

Need for speed was always the one racing game I could depends on for old fashioned racing fun. It wasn’t a technical simulator or realistic but thats what made it awesome. You could “drive” all your favourite cars and make them look purdy in an arcade racer environment. I really hope they go back to that formula.

im sure its a good car, just doesnt scream “need for speed icon” for me.

As for this “reboot” business. If they make it anything like the last Most Wanted I wont touch this with a 10 foot barge pole. If they actually make the game as a bastard love child of Underground 2 and THE ONE AND ONLY Most Wanted, I will pre order this so fast my wallet won’t know what hit it.

I want this to work so badly it hurts. But the last game, Rivals, on PC was LOCKED at 30 fps because the framerate was somehow tied directly into the graphics engine. FPS above or below 30 would cause the game to lag so badly it was unplayable. Absolutely no AntiAliasing either. So a racing game, released in 2014 by one of the biggest publishers in the world, ran horribly and looked even worse on max settings. Get it right you baboons at EA

This isn’t nearly enough for me to make a call. I’m a huge NFS fanboy and am proud to say that I have finished all of the NFS’s since Underground, but lately the series has been weak. Project Cars set a new standard for me so it is going to take a lot to get me to like this new NFS.

its NFS, theyr nothing if not consistant.
graphics are good, cars will probably handle well for a casual racer, drift all the corners etc. all depends on how much they simplify the game over the original series.

project cars is a VERY different game to NFS, formal track racing vs fun street drifting are like two totally different games.

from what Ive tried of project cars, i didnt like the handling, a friend has it on pc and doesnt have a controller or steering wheel and that game is just completely unplayable on keyboard.

not sure this is a title id preorder, but its one il most likely get close to launch.

Yes there is a difference, track racing vs illegal street racing, but that doesn’t mean they cant learn from Project Cars. Maybe you should try it on console or with a controller on PC before you say you don’t like the handling. Its realistic, some cars are sensitive, others handle like boats. You can’t take NFS mentality and try to bolt 150km/h around a corner and expect the car to stick.

ofcourse you cant bolt round corners, ive played enough formal racers and spent enough time on actual tracks to tell the difference between the two. thus my comment on “casua racers” and “drift all the corners”
i meant that the steering was too slow, the actual turning rate of the wheel, and a game that is unplayable on standard PC equipment shouldnt be a thing.

Played Project cars with controller, very technical game to master, especially with those pressure sensitive triggers, had to concentrate alot to get the car around for a few laps and even then it wasn’t perfect but the game is solid, just needs more cars for me
