Need for Speed release date, details leaked

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damn excited for the new, reboot vision of Need for Speed. Just the idea of a return to nocturnal, urban racing in brightly coloured cars had my hype train revving – despite the fact that the first look at the arcade racer next month could derail it. And see it we will, especially if this release date is to be believed.

It seems that Xbox have jumped the gun somewhat with regards to Need for Speed, listing the title with a November 3rd release date on their online store. The listing was quickly pulled, but like everything else that manages to find its way online, someone saw it first. That release date seems fairly accurate given the end of year window that EA already dished out – putting it in and around the same time as most holiday blockbusters.

What’s also interesting is some information that the blurb managed to spill as well. Listed are five different ways to play, namely Speed, Style, Build, Crew and Outlaw. This could tie into the unique story that you’ll be able to craft for yourself in the game’s single-player mode – with each tier helping you towards achieving icon status. That, or there are different events that focus on different aspects of your preferred racer.

Although that then makes me wonder what the hell Style is going to be all about (if not for seeing how many different colours of neon you can shove into the under-chassis of your V8).

It does also make the game sound even more like a spiritual successor to the highly successful Underground series that Need for Speed so famously touched on. The reveal trailer made it rather clear that this reboot was heading in that direction – but the inclusion of style and outlaw types of racing pretty much assures it.

Either way, we’ll see for sure next month.

If they start you off with a Porsche or something ridiculous again as a first car, then they’ve not listened to their customers. If they once again exclude a monetary system, then they’ve not listened to their customers. If the don’t include lower end cars, then they’ve not listened to their customers.
That said. I’m really hoping this game is good, and I’m cautiously optimistic about it, because I believe in second chances 😉

Don’t you mean like 5th or 6th chance (probably way more but I lost count)?

Could be closer to 9. But let’s call it second chances getting second changes then?

Agreed, we can leave it as second chance for now, but if they stuff this up it goes back to ten in my books and stays that way.

Well in the trailer is an older c10 skyline. Also the 180/200sx was one of the lower end startup cars in underground, so I think they could be heading in that direction.
We can only hope they dont butcher this game though… because I’ve been itching for an underground/Most Wanted type NFS since the shambles that was Carbon.

Style could be about how you race, not the style of your car. I’d classify Build as the way your car looks.

You’ll probably find Outlaw has a more police based getaway – giving you bonus stuff that helps you outrun the cops or something.

Agreed. I see it the same way. Build would be part of how you customise your car and style would be how you drive. Like in the first most wanted when there are certain stage events on how you can stop the police and possibly how you end up doing it via like a 360 spin into one of those stage things. Just a guess on the last part.

Need for Speed has been meh for about 5 or 6 years now… They are, quite literally, as the bottom of the racer pile now. They will need to absolutely knock it out of the park to bring peeps back.

That being said, I truly hope this is a great game! From the first bit of info, it sounds really promising and that they might, finally, be going back to their Underground roots… But will wait for actual gameplay (and no, a cutscene don’t cut it, pardon the pun) before passing judgement on this one. Come on NFS – come back to life!!

I agree. The Shift games were fun though, I must say. But all the “street racer” games were just plain terrible the past years.

Agreed. I enjoyed both too, but would you be surprised to learn that Shift was released back in 2008? That’s right – 7 years old! Shift 2 was in 2011, but I found it to be the weaker of the 2. And yeah, don’t get me started on the ‘street racer’ varieties… It’s taken them 11 years (Underground 2 was released in 2004) to realise we want another Underground!

Whaat!? Wow. I didn’t realise they were so old. I didn’t play the first one very much because I never owned it myself, but I really did enjoy all the time I spent on the second.
I just keep saying one thing about bringing a new Underground. They BETTER have lower range cars to start off with and work yourself up with. Not a 400k+ car.

They should include Hyundai and KIA. Include as many cars as they can, I say.

The first need for speed didn’t have neon afaik. The first one to include that kind of customisation (and still one of the best in the series) was NFS Underground.

And yes, I’m aware it’s the Underground series you’re referring to. 🙂

Just hope it isn’t a case of night time racing and pretty neon lights drawing gamers to it like a moth to a flame.

Thinking about it – if this combines the best aspects of NFS Underground and the first Most Wanted – it’ll be the best in the series. Easily. Imho, the first Most Wanted is currently the best of the lot, with both Underground games following closely.

Most people won’t agree with me on this one, BUT I really enjoyed undercover. Not the story, but the graphics and mechanics in the game. The customization was pretty good. And I enjoyed the music score as well.

Can I ask for one thing and one thing only. Make it possible for us to earn all the DLC in game. I don’t mind tthe grind but give us the option at least.

Haha. I had to make a financial decision between that and The Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 won. By a long shot. 😀
By the time I’m done with it, Project CARS will be cheaper anyway, so I’m telling myself that it’s worth the wait.

also decided to hold off on project cars, after playing it briefly its unplayable on keyboard, and watching a few vids of people playing it, it just doesnt look like a game that would work with a controller either, steering feels so delayed. looks like the kind of game that you need a really good wheel setup. not willing to drop the cash for that…

with forza 6 coming, im hoping theyll do a bundle deal for the xbone that goes for R5200 on a takealot daily deal, like the witcher 3 did yesterday.
heck, if they did a new bundle with either 5 / horizon / horizon 2, id have jumped right in.
