I’m not exactly peeking around every corner for a whiff of more Need for Speed news, but a slight return to Underground roots has a lot of fans excited. Need for Speed is also, unsurprisingly, an incredible looking game – with EA making full use of their in-house Frostbite Engine to power their first-party line-up. It seems though that this attention to extreme detail can take its toll though, especially if you’re planning to play Need for Speed on PC.
While the Xbox One and PS4 version are still on course for later this year, the PC version of the game has been halted until American Spring 2016. That places it somewhere around the incredibly busy Q1 of 2016, which is full of brand new, GOTY material titles – leaving the fate of Need for Speed on PC squarely on the most die-hard fans out there.
Fans who would most definitely have been the first to cry foul if the game wasn’t delayed in the first place. According to a post from developers Ghost Games, the time bought with the delay is being used to create a PC version that is worthy of the highly expensive hardware that will run it. That means features like unlocked frame rates and higher visual fidelity will be injected into the port – which quite frankly should all just be there in the first place.
“Our PC community [said] that an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree. To deliver this, we’ve made the decision to move the PC release date to Spring 2016.
“This decision on PC gives us the necessary development time to increase the visuals that we can deliver on PC. We will also include content updates that will have been released on console up to that time, making them available to all PC players from day one.”
As a consolation, Ghost Games will launch Need for Speed on PC with all the DLC released up to that point included, which is another neat way of giving you content that probably should’ve just been there from the start. Either way, if you’ve been dying to jump back into the rain-slicked streets of this arcade racer, you’ll just have to suppress your excitement for a little longer.

Perhaps it is because of that new alien, Time, in Xcom 2?
OR justice. No Xcom 2 for console, delay need for speed for PC.

Thought they might delay it to put in manual transmissions….

They made it clear they’re not going to add manual.
Regardless of so many people asking for it.
They say it’s “complex enough”. Yes, assuming monkeys are playing it.
Without manual option this game has nothing. I’m sticking with The Crew, which I’m loving so far.

With this attitude, you’d think when it comes to their PC release, there just isn’t any need for speed

Not surprised. It’s EA. And service means nothing to most devs anymore these days anyway.
Not that it matters. This game looks to be a real disappointment anyway.
