Endor looks spectacular in new Star Wars Battlefront gameplay

Star Wars Battlefront is actually out rather soon, avoiding the hype black hole that is next week Tuesday by extending its release by a full week. The DICE shooter made a good impression on me during the beta (I know not everyone feels the same way), but that’s mostly down to the incredibly authentic recreation of so many Star Wars assets. And that was before I got to see Endor – easily the most gorgeous planet that Battlefront has to offer.

For the uninitiated, Endor is the lush forest planet featured in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and acts as the setting for the climactic final battle against the Empire. It also has the cute little Ewoks roaming around – although it doesn’t look like you’ll get to use them as target practice in battlefront. You will, however, have access to the Speeder Bikes – just don’t take after the film’s stormtroopers and go hurtling into massive trees just as you’re about to hit your target.

We also get a look at Han Solo in action, who looks like a particularly powerful Hero character. I really like the amount of detail DICE has put into all of them, but Solo in particular stands out. Even his stance is dead on, especially when running around a corner and encountering a large group of foes to blaster down.

Same can’t be said for the voice acting though. Especially when you hear Darth Vader speak again. Cringe.

There are some peeks into some of the changes already made from the beta (such as the difference in aiming reticule for the AT-ST Walker), but it’s not fundamentally a different game. If you didn’t enjoy the beta, there might still be something in Battlefront for you with the various other modes. But for fans of it like me, seeing Endor like this just makes the wait even longer.

Not really sure why the trailer saw fit to pause at points. Felt awkward.

Still unsure how I feel about Battlefront. I’m interested, but not necessarily interested enough to actually cash in.

Ugh, when you click play and the first thing they show is a space battle. Still kinda want this game. Value just isn’t there. Will see later on when all the DLC releases are done

Will you pay a total of R1600 for a game with the DLCs though?

Yeah, I think somebody with the appropriate knowledge and a working class salary wouldn’t buy it. Then again fans are fans, and there’s no fan like a Star Wars fan.
