Battlefield 1 Behemoths will create “nail-biting endings”

Behemoth-field

Some days, it feels like you got out of the wrong side of bed when you boot up a console or PC and hop into a multiplayer game. It’s one thing to lose a game, but to have your ass utterly handed to you? The shame man, oh the shame. It’s probably going to happen quite often in Battlefield 1, as that franchise attracts a certain class of player with each new release.

Usually the manic obsessive kind of player who gets maximum rank within a day and spends the next six months hiding under obstacles so that he can instakill you with a knife to the foot. Bastards. Thing is, I don’t mind losing. It’s just that I wish that I could go down in a massive blaze of glory, like some sort of land-based Hindenburg blimp that was armed to the teeth.

Battlefield 1 might have a solution in mind. It may be the beginning of the 20th century, but there’ll still be plenty of vehicles to choose from. Like the Behemoth, massive tank-like vehicles which a losing side will have access to in an endgame situation. One such Behemoth includes that blimp that I just fantasised about, which will most likely end with me screaming “Oh the huge manatee!” when it finally takes enough damage and goes down.

“It flies on top of the map and it takes control of the map,” senior producer Aleksandar Grøndal said to Polygon.

Defenders really need to focus on trying to take down this behemoth. If they manage to take it down, it comes crashing down, and you don’t want to be in the way when this airship lands on top of your face. It creates a cool dynamic. We always want these nail-biting endings.

As for actual vehicles? There’s a whole new approach this year. Tanks happen to come in three flavours, that range from light one-man vehicles to three-man medium tanks and finally massive six-man heavy tanks. “It’s really cool,” Grøndal said. “Depending on what sort of game you want to have, you can choose what type of plane or tank.”

The biggest change however, is in how players get their hands on a vehicle. Usually, a Battlefield game would start with everyone racing to claim their favourite vehicle and then dying several seconds later when the opposition attacked. This year however, Battlefield 1 players can select the land or aircraft that they want to deploy into.

“If you see the match is being dominated by bombers, you can choose to spawn in, in a fighter,” Grøndal explained.”You choose from the spawn menu and it puts you directly into the plane. You can go in and customize it without anyone being able to steal it,” design director Lars Gustavsson added.

We want to streamline how you get into the plane.

Was interested but after the website blurbs on “range of SMG, LMG etc etc being available” realised this another updated BF4 with WW1-like skin.
