Signs point towards Destiny’s next expansion kicking off on September 20

Destiny-(3)

What’s the state of Destiny right now? Destiny 2: Electric Boogaloo will only arrive in 2017 according to some vague memos, while the current April update will probably keep players entertained for at least a month before they move on yet again. While popping back every Friday to see if Xur has a Last Word revolver up for grabs. That’s a rather big gap in the second year of Destiny, when you consider how the expansions The Dark Below and House of Wolves helped stop that exodus during year one.

The Taken King however, was the best of the lot. A proper upgrade that provided a massive and proper expansion for the money invested in it, that content kept players around for months on end. It’s the kind of expansion that Destiny fans get the most kick out of, being thrown a ton of toys and then being left alone to figure out how to use it all over a lengthy period.

And if you look closely at current conspiracy theories (ERIN MORNE BLEEDS NUTELLA FROM HER EYES!), Bungie could kick off the third year of Destiny with the same approach. That’s according to some digging that was done by Reddit user Rezyl Azzir (via Eurogamer), in a post that has since been deleted. The post dealt with a walkthrough regarding the new Prison of Elders and a new lore card which was posted 16 minutes after the April update went live. The post contained information about an unheard of character in Destiny named…Rezyl Azzir. Well alright then.

The flavour text on the lore tells of the last safe city on Earth, as it was built. Here’s a snippet of it:

Destiny-(1)

This was before the City was The City.

This is before the walls. Still in the shadow of the fragile giant above, but before.

Salvation seekers came — survivors; weary remnants of a people on the brink.

These were the days before reason took hold. Before study was merged with belief.

The giant was looked to as one would a God. Maybe it still is.

And here’s where it gets interesting. The user had previously posted a message in Latin which translated to “The twentieth day of the ninth month. IT is coming. Forward, to the stars.” Which translates even further to the date of September 20. That makes plenty of sense. Destiny first arrived on that month, as did the release of The Taken King a year later. September is when a new year begins in Destiny.

Fans have also further explored the idea of Mars having a big new zone to explore, with the Cabal taking center-stage as the prime antagonists. Something I would mind seeing, after dealing with the Hive primarily in two big DLC drops and the Fallen in the House of Wolves add-on. Throwing eve more fuel on the fire, was Bungie Community Manager David Dague teasing the “next point on the horizon” in a weekly update on the developer blog.

I’ve seen it. I’m excited about it. I will say no more… For now

Which should keep players invested for at least another month then. But it’s going to be one hell of a wait from now until Septemberr.
