Lets support a real comic book event this year

FCD

By now, we’re all aware that Comic Con SA is going heavy with the con for that Comic book convention. Did I say comic book convention? I meant Comic book convention launch. Big difference apparently! At the end of the day, we can do better. In fact, we already do. So instead of getting your ire all worked up over that non-event, rather go give some support to folks who know what they’re actually doing.

Readers Den is just one such place that is going to be getting their juxtaposed panels on, for Free Comic Book Day 2013. That’s happening on May 4, Star Wars day and the month of my birth, your comic book nerd messiah, so you know it’s going to be good.

The name pretty much speaks for itself. Big name publishers throw out a ton of free comic books, fans gather, grab a few collectibles and shoot the breeze talking shop about this specific entertainment medium. It’s a good day to like comics, is what I’m saying.

Readers Den has been joining this international celebration of capes and masks for a while now, and it always attracts a crowd of regular fans, dedicated cosplayers and most importantly: People who want to get into comic books.

So if you’re Cape Town based, go show some support, go have some fun and go experience an event with more than 150 fans that will give back to you instead of asking for an entrance fee.

Update 1

Thanks to Charlb87 for this one. Cosmic Comics in Jozi is also joining the international fun. And you can grab a R50 voucher to boot by attending. Sounds pretty rad to me.

Update 2

Add two more shops to the list, courtesy of j03B and Corne Cunnington! If you’re residing in Centurion in Gautengaleng, you can head on over to Steampunk Comics, while Alberton’s own Smallville Comics will also be open for business on the mecca of comic book days.

Do you know of any other local FCD events happening? Let us know below and we’ll add it to this post.
