DC-Reboot

DC Rebirth is currently off to a fine start. This time, it’s not about heroes dying and entire worlds being rewritten: it’s about heroes finding that connection of hope and inspiration, and running wild with it. And also fancy new uniforms. Just about everybody has gotten some new threads, with the new old Superman having his third costume revision in five years. FASHION DAHLING!

That’s just the tip of the iceberg of course, as more redesigns are on the way. CBR got given a first look at other new threads that included new looks for Artemis and Bizarro by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Batman Beyond byBernard Chang, Bumblebee by Brett Booth, the new Super-Man by Viktor Bogdanovic, and Red Robin by Eddy Barrows.

Let’s break it down!

Artemis

Rebirth latest (2)

Wait, who? If you’re into Wonder Woman, you’ll know who Artemis is. She’s an Amazonian, an elite warrior who is the Tigra to Wonder Woman’s Lion-O. And also she was drawn as a stripper for most of her early appearances because raging hormones sold comic books in the 1990s. Her costume in DC Rebirth however, is a lot more practical.

A black bodysuit with highlights and plenty of weapons. Now that’s one Amazon who knows how to dress to kill.

Batman Beyond

Rebirth latest (1)

“Ears are too long and I miss the cape, but not too shabby,” said the Joker back in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Still, the batsuit that Terry McGinnis has been wearing for the last seventeen years has been rather timeless. Back in black, with a big red bat and an extendable cape. What’s not to love? That mask apparently.

While the costume itself is largely intact, the mask has received several upgrades that just look…weird. Longer eyes, a more prominent lining of the cowl over the jaw area and razor-fins added to the arms. So good from the neck down then. I don’t know, there’s just something about that cowl that throws me off. Too weird man, too weird.

Bizarro

Rebirth latest (6)

He looks like Brock Lesnar in a Man of Steel cosplay. Well alright then.

Bumblebee

Rebirth latest (3)

I honestly don’t know much about this character, outside of her appearances in episodes of Young Justice. And I’m slightly disappointed that DC doesn’t have the rights to Transformers, because I was expecting a different Bumblebee.

Red Robin

Rebirth latest (5)

Red Robin has always had the weirdest history in comics. Initially an older version of Dick Grayson who took back his sidekick identity and upgraded it to the Red Robin persona, this vigilante was born out of the possible future that was Kingdom Come. Pre-Flashpoint, recently resurrected former Robin Jason Todd also assumed the identity, which in the New 52 became the codename for Tim Drake’s identity in Teen Titans. PHEW! Comics!

Tim Drake is still operating as Red Robin after DC Rebirth however, but the costume itself is going back to his classic sidekick colours. More green, less cowl and a cape to replace the wings so that fans can stop confusing him as a kid version of Falcon over at Marvel.

New Super-Man

Rebirth latest (4)

Better red than dead! The New Super-Man is proudly Chinese, because it’s going to be interesting to see if that nation which has recently created a middle-class that is flush with cash and a love for western media will buy into this comic book. DC Rebirth kicked off last week, and it’s continuing that positive momentum that it built up with the release of Batman: Rebirth #1, Green Arrow: Rebirth #1, Green Lanterns: Rebirth #1 and Superman: Rebirth #1 this week.

Jason Todd was red hood not red robin
In main continuity, only Tim has ever been red robin
Kingdom come, as mentioned is outside main continuity
