| | Clearing up the Porn Issue | Gavin Mannion - January 8th, 2008 | I think this rumour has been going on long enough and it is time to put it to rest. You have all heard that the pornographic industry was the reason that VHS won out over Betamax in the last format war, and that the porn industry was heavily backing HD-DVD in this war. Well no one can confirm for deny those rumours but some things can be proven now. Firstly porn is now longer the huge ... [»] |

| HD DVD Xbox 360 binned because Warner switched to Blu-ray? | Gavin Mannion - January 8th, 2008 | A new rumour/conspiracy doing the rounds is that the Xbox 360 Ultimate (the one with the rumoured HD-DVD drive) was cancelled at the last minute due to Warner's Blu-Ray statement. In fact, I'd bet money that Microsoft's much-rumoured HD DVD-enabled Xbox 360 was one of the deals on offer to tempt Warner to support HD DVD exclusively in a "you support our format, we'll send out a few million more players over the next year" kind of deal. Personally I think that is rubbish and the Ultimate was never even considered. In related Blu-Ray / HD-DVD news however it looks like the war may be well and truly finished. ... [»] |

| Michael Bay whines about Microsoft | Gavin Mannion - December 5th, 2007 | So Michael Bay doesn't like the way Microsoft is doing business.... In his own direct words... What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft ... [»] |

| Xbox 360 HD-DVD drops to $129 | Gavin Mannion - December 5th, 2007 | It seems that Microsoft has decided to drop the price of the HD-DVD add on from $179 to $129... Which makes it very appealing now doesn't it... What is strange is that they haven't actually really advertised it.... You would think they would shout about this but it has been a very quite change.... Still it's a pity we don't get it here yet, one day we ... [»] |

| Blu-Ray runs and hides… | Gavin Mannion - November 28th, 2007 | Some sad news coming out this morning, it seems that the might Blu-Ray alliance was to scared to join in an open and honest debate with HD-DVD on Gizmodo's website. After initially confirming that it would be there, it has now backed out at the last minute and used the following poor excuse as its reason They didn't want ... [»] |

| Disney Jumping Blu-Ray ship? | Gavin Mannion - November 21st, 2007 | Okay so maybe that is a bit sensationalist but what Disney did at the recent format steering committee has caused quite a ruckus in the Blu-Ray camp. The meeting was going as usual and then the question of whether to allow the new 51GB HD-DVD as an official format came up, as usual all the Blu-Ray backers abstained from the vote and the HD-DVD and impartial backers said yes... However Disney, which has always been one of the strongest Blu-Ray backers, also decided to vote yes to the new format. So are they thinking of becoming dual format? So far ... [»] |

| "Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD = Stalemate" – Sony | XennoX - November 9th, 2007 | Now, now, before we start hauling insults and shouting "fanboy" to one another over the title of this article, let me just explain. It seems like the CEO of Sony, yes no jokes its Howard Stringer, has come out of the woodwork, and reportedly said that the battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is a stalemate. Is it me or does this just seem ironic? Here you have a Sony employee, saying that the battle that is currently is tipped in Blu-ray's favour is a stalemate. Doesn't this just seem stupid? Now that Sony has acknowledged it maybe all the "fanboys" will to. Source here. |

| Toshiba Moves 90,000 HD DVD Players During Weekend Sales Rush | XennoX - November 7th, 2007 | So most of you guys knew about the sub $200 HD-DVD players that were being sold, it seems like the price was further dropped to sub $100 and the players flew off the shelves. This is certainly good news for the HD-DVD camp, as they certainly do need this boost. This also means the "war" is far from over. Looks like it will be decided by the end of next year. Now I don't own a PS3/Blu-ray player or even an HD-DVD player for that matter but, I, do believe that Blu-ray will come out on top next year, unless this price coup continues. The problem is how long can Toshiba afford to take ... [»] |

| Warner Brothers Going Blu-Ray Exclusive | Gavin Mannion - November 1st, 2007 | Warner is currently the only major studio to still support both the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats since Paramount decided to be a HD-DVD exclusive studio. So obviously at a recent Blu-Ray event in the US the head of Warner (Dan Silverberg) was quizzed about Warners stance... First he mentions that the movie 300 is the top selling Blu-Ray title of all time and is still number 1 in most markets. He then goes on to say they cannot stay dual format forever and states.. "We can definitely talk Blu-ray," he said. "We are committed to the ... [»] |

| Kmart chooses HD DVD – Bad week for Blu-Ray | Gavin Mannion - November 1st, 2007 | In yet another blow to Blu-Ray this week, Kmart has decided to stock HD-DVD exclusively from now on. They cited the lower price of HD-DVD players as their main reason but did reiterate that they will continue to sell the Blu-Ray enabled PS3. This really hasn't been a good week for Blu-Ray has it? Could it really be possible that the rank outsider is going to take this format war? It does seem possible now, however I think it is more likely that we are going to be forced to live with dual formats for a long time to come. Kmart chooses HD DVD - DVDTOWN.com |
