| | The PS3 Accounts for Over Two Thirds of US Blu-Ray Players | Geoffrey Tim - January 13th, 2009 | It’s been almost a year since Toshiba threw in the towel for ill-fated HD-DVD. While sales of the Blu-Ray format have yet to reach the levels of current home video king DVD, market penetration (*chortle*) is on an incline.Figures show that of the almost 11 million blu-ray players sold in the US, over 70% are in the form of Sony’s black wonderbox. Despite the presence of cheaper players, many pundits still see the PS3 as good value. I heard it’s because it plays games too, but I don’t like to report on unsubstantiated rumours. This leaves me wondering something : Is the PS3 responsible for Blu-Ray’s success, or is Blu-Ray carrying the PS3?Source : Psu.com |

| Blu-Ray Competition – Results | Gavin Mannion - July 14th, 2008 | By Philip Dunkley Okay, so during last week, we ran quite a few comps, and one of them was centered around a few Blu-Ray titles. 5 Blu-Ray titles to be exact. So the question I asked you was the following: What do you lovely people think the combined weight of the 5 BD discs are, bearing in mind that they are in Slim Line cases? Now I can see that many of you have obviously got scales at home, and some of you have never seen a scale or picked up a BD before in your lives!!! But there were some pretty close answers, but ... | Blu – Ray Competition | Gavin Mannion - July 10th, 2008 | By Philip Dunkley So the time has come for us to release the next competition (yes another one), so here goes. Ster Kinekor has once again sponsored Blu-Ray discs to us, but this time it’s a bit different. Instead of releasing a review for a specific movie, I’m just going to go ahead and give away 5 Blu-Ray Titles, as I know how much you love them, and I know that Ster Kinekor is pushing these puppies big time at the moment. Have you also noticed that the price has come down at certain shops, like R199 for a title? So that makes me, and most other PS3 or BD ... [»] |
