It seems the initially reported date for the local release of the PlayStation 4 could have been an error; according to local videogames purveyor BT Games (via MyGaming), the latest console from Sony will actually be coming a little bit later than we had hoped.
They list a release date instead of December 12, which is when they’ll be hosting their launch party – about a week later than the 6 December date we’d expected. It means you’ll still be play to play your shiny new PS4 games over the holidays, but you’ll have to wait a while before doing so.
None of the other retailers have changed their dates though; CNA, Kalahari.com, AWX and Takealot all still have a 6 December launch date listed. Other local game distributors are not aware of any changes.
We’ve reached out to PlayStation distributor Ster Kinekor, who’ve not been able to either deny or confirm the later release date. BT Games, however, has told us that the release date has officially changed.
We’ll let you know more as soon as we do.
[Update]Mario dos Santos, Chief Executive Officer of Ster Kinekor Entertainment said “We have received the final global shipping timelines from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc and can confirm that our release dates are aligned with the international retail calendar.”

It might come down to logistics, its possible that they just found out by their logistics provider that they cant make the date so delay by a week.

September 30, 2013 at 11:57
Exactly the same offering as consoles, but with upgrade path and better game pricing specials?
Hammersteyn
September 30, 2013 at 12:01
Not exactly the same. Both console and PC still has some exclusives that the other doesn’t have. It’s better to have both a PC and either console.
Uberutang
September 30, 2013 at 12:04
If you care about console exclusives yes.
UltimateNinjaPandaDudeGuy
September 30, 2013 at 11:57
It’s the whole controller and “console” pair I am very interested in! I am thinking about getting a Steam Machines box and then obviously controllers.
If it can act as a media center like the PS3 does then I think I will be going the way of Steam for all my console gaming needs.
Excited about everything that is happening though. If it doesn’t pan out I am going PS4, but going to wait for the Slim…
Alien Emperor Trevor
September 30, 2013 at 11:59
You know what I’d find really funny? Someone mods the SteamOS to support the Kinect. Which would also be pretty cool.
UltimateNinjaPandaDudeGuy
September 30, 2013 at 12:03
I am pretty damn excited for the “openess” of it all… That controller also looks really cool!
My 174 Steam games might have something to do with all of this xD
iAmWeasel
September 30, 2013 at 12:01
PC gamers should be more excited about Steam OS in my opinion. Operating system dedicated to gaming = best way of making most of that fancy hardware.
frikkenator
September 30, 2013 at 12:12
The Verge said it best. “You will never see a 360/PS3 owner wondering whether the latest 360/PS3 game will play properly on their console”.
Valve is creating the Android of the console world, which will lead to fragmentation REALLY quickly. That in turn will lead to them losing the one thing consoles have got going for them, the ability to optimize and release for one specific set of hardware, guaranteeing a certain performance level.
Like Gavin I don’t really see the point of it all and I don’t think it poses a big threat to the PS4/Xbone.
UltimateNinjaPandaDudeGuy
September 30, 2013 at 12:17
Well they will be making specific hardware specs early next year… If they stick to like 3 models then it does narrow it down a lot more for devs…
I get what you are saying though. I think consoles are safe for console gamers, but they are pulling someone like me away. I like a PC WAY more than console. I just had a PS3 because getting my TV connected to a gaming platform was a must for me… Steam Machine will replace that for me.
frikkenator
September 30, 2013 at 12:22
The bigger problem is the fact that they’re not touting their own consoles as much as they are the fact that anyone can now make a console that runs SteamOS.
But yea, I think you’re right when you say they are going to get hardcore PC players to finally consider a console (or console like PC).
UltimateNinjaPandaDudeGuy
September 30, 2013 at 12:26
I am just excited for something new… This whole PC vs Console war has been going on way too long. This is just Valve deciding they are going to invade the living room!
Finally more choice! o/
frikkenator
September 30, 2013 at 12:27
Yea, more choice at this point in time is most certainly not a bad thing!
Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)
September 30, 2013 at 12:34
I have to agree with you, it’ll end up like the Ouya, a fringe console for a very fringe and overly vocal fanbase. PC gamers are annoying now, just wait till they became annoying console owners through Valve’s console.

September 30, 2013 at 13:23
I disagree. Valve OS is not like android. Valve OS is like err any PC OS with little constraints. You can run it on a 10 year old machine or a new one. Android versions on the other hand is almost device locked and thus a nightmare to develop for.
One thing I can’t stand about consoles is forcing you to play at a graphic level at 20-30 fps, where I would rather want to tune down the graphics to run at 60+ fps.
Console users often say they can just insert the disk and play and that is somehow a great advantage. But I’d rather spend 2 minutes to adjust the settings to match the performance of my pc/preference before I jump into a game I could spend 100 hours on. In the end higher FPS will give me a much better experience than playing at sluggish low fps.
The Verge is wrong performance is a concern of console gamers and if a game performs crappy like the latest gta you can’t do shit about it.
tl:dr PC > Consoles.
Zubayr Bhyat
September 30, 2013 at 13:37
Consoles are for lazy people like me 😉 PC works better for some things, such as FPS. I recently played Quake Live again and I do miss the accuracy of the mouse / keyboard combo.
Then again, in terms of an optimisation lesson there’s nothing better than a console.

Exactly! Tone down the god rays and go for 4 x AA over 16 AA and boom 60fps vs 30 fps. Options.

Meh, not the best news ever, but since I only really care about BF4 at launch, and since I’m already getting it on PS3 (Will do the upgrade thing) it’s not really an issue.
I think we should just be thankful we are getting it in 2013…
