Renegade X looks like a fantastic Command and Conquer game

EA may have no idea what they’re doing with the Command and Conquer franchise, but the fans certainly do. One group of dedicated NOD followers have spent the last six years on Renegade X. And it looks freakin’ fantastic.

What was originally meant to be an Unreal Tournament 3 mod quickly became something else as the spiritual successor to 2002’s Command and Conquer: Renegade got a new graphical lease on life. The multiplayer ambitions of the game were eventually abandoned for a standalone title instead from developer Totem Arts.

Here’s the official description of the game:

Players will be able to fight for two unique teams – the Global Defense Initiative (GDI), a UN international military force committed to world order and peacekeeping, and the Brotherhood of Nod, a messianic international terrorist network that aims to push humanity into the next stage of human evolution.

Players will be able to manage their own economies, choose from over 30 weapons, 15 vehicles, and call in nuclear strikes, Ion Cannons, and airstrikes, and much more.

Each team will have a base of operations that composes of several key structures. Each structure has its own purpose. For example, the GDI Barracks gives GDI players access to special weapons and characters. If the Barracks is destroyed by Nod forces, GDI will lose the ability to purchase these special weapons.P

Renegade X also features a skirmish mode and bots to go with the Black Dawn single-player campaign, and it;s due out next year February 26. And if I can’t have a proper RTS Command and Conquer, then this is the next best thing.

  1. It always amazes me that people struggle to make awesome games when all the thinkwork behind design/story has ALREADY been done.

    This games sure looks fun!

I quite enjoyed C&C Renegade. It was fun running around in an FPS seeing all the stuff that you’d only seen in the RTS.

    Looks great!

Just thinking that Battlefield Frostbite 3 engine would be perfect for a C&C game like this!

C&C Renegade wasn’t awful. It was actually a fun game to play multiplayer.
