Shadow of Mordor was my biggest surprise of E3, and hopefully I’ve convinced you why it’s going to be a top RPG of the year. The latest trailer explains the polarity within the protagonist, and what your character will go through over the course of the game.

Here is the latest behind the scenes video featuring Troy Baker and Alastair Duncan:

For those who don’t watch videos, they explain that despite sharing a body and a journey, Talion and Celebrimbor don’t always like each other. They need each other, and eventually find their commonalities, but they are still two distinct characters – for narrative and gameplay purposes. This is integrated into the full gameplay experience and allows players to learn more about the characters as they progress. Considering that both characters have lost some of their own memories, the journey of discovery is a shared one.

I really like the talent that they’ve brought on board for the game. Troy Baker is already a critically acclaimed voice-over actor, and Alastair Duncan also has some impressive credits to his name. Seeing them together in the video you can see their chemistry on screen and I’m very intrigued about how this will play out in the game itself.

Have I convinced you that this will be an awesome RPG? I’m certainly keen to get my hands on it – beyond holding me over until Dragon Age: Inquisition, I think it will be an excellent game in its own right.

If the one ring poops them all, does that mean throwing it into a volcano to destroy it is some kind of curry metaphor?

Really looking forward to this. If there is a scene though where Gandalf says ‘Fly you fools’ I will be heading off to the eagles, much easier getting to Mt Doom. Hobbits be crazy.

I once googled why the Eagles didn’t just fly the fellowship wholesale to the top of Mt. Doom (a fairly ominous name for an otherwise stable volcano that only really erupts AFTER the good guys throw the ring in there and destroy most of Mordor – wankers).

Yahoo (and various others) provides a chuckle though:
      1. “…Also it was just Frodo’s fate to take it to Mordor, he was seen as the only one who could make it without falling to the temptation to keep it himself, all though the Eagles were proud and good who knows what they could have done with the ring if tempted…. it doesn’t say anywhere that the Eagles couldn’t also wear the ring.”
      2. “[B]ecause then it would be a 15 page book.”
      3. “The eagles only participate in the struggle against evil when they choose to.”

I personally would have loved to see an ending with an Eagle trying to put the ring on. Lolz. Anyway. All I have ever been able to surmise is that the eagles seem to be lazy bastards. A pox on them.

Did anyone think that the Nazgul were just going to sit back and relax while an eagle glided into Mordor?

I think they would have torn the eagle and Frodo a new one 8). Hence the reason they needed to use stealth level 1000.
