The Grand tournament

I have a very powerful love/hate relationship with Hearthstone. On the one hand, I find myself enjoying Blizzard’s popular card title (every now and then), but on the other, I find my opponent drawing a lucky card, destroying my face, and at the same time, my desire to play the game. Skill? SKILL? More like luck AMIRITE?

That’s just my feeling though – I’m an amateur. For those who are the complete opposite, well, they get to go to Blizzcon to compete for a boatload of money in the Hearthstone World Championship:

The long road to the World Championship is approaching its thrilling destination! The final, legendary leg of the Hearthstone World Championship begins on October 28 at 9:00 AM PDT, as part of BlizzCon’s Opening Week festivities. Sixteen of the best Hearthstone players in the world, hailing from the Americas, Europe, China and the Asia-Pacific region will be there.

These players battled their way through opponent after opponent to get here, proving themselves again and again, and now they stand at the threshold with the reward for all their effort in sight. It will take all of their will, wits, and Hearthstone skill to win the two-stage tournament that will decide who will be crowned 2015 Hearthstone World Champion and claim their share of the $250,000 prize pool!

Hot damn, a $250,000 prize pool for playing cards? I knew I should’ve packed up all my things and pursued a legit career in competitive solitaire all those years ago!

In all seriousness, I much prefer watching Hearthstone than playing it, so I will be keeping my eyes glued to the event for pure entertainment reasons (and pro tips to improve my own overall game). If you’d like to do the same, here’s a breakdown of the schedule:

Group Stages

16 players will throw down in four different groups. Two players advance from each group to form a Top 8 that will advance to the single-elimination bracket.

  • Dates: 28/10 – 31/10
  • Start time: 9:00 AM PDT/12:00 PM EST/5:00 PM CET

Single-elimination

Eight players will come together and battle for the title of Hearthstone World Champion.

  • Dates: 06/11 – 07/11
  • Start time:
    06/11: 11:45 AM PST
    – 07/11: 10:30 AM PST

If you’d like to spectate, you can catch all the action over on the official Hearthstone twitch channel. Will you be watching?
