The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited was released on consoles yesterday, and like every other game that relies on servers, has been hit with launch day woes. Players are finding they’re unable to save the world of Tamriel, unable to beat the launch day first level boss: The login screen.
Yesterday, many North American players were unable to log in, prompting Bethesda to suggest logging in to the EU megaserver instead. That, however, has caused the European servers to struggle too – leaving many unable to play the game.
Bethesda is aware of the issues, leaving this bit of wisdom for fans trying to play:
“We are aware that some of you are still seeing the following error message when attempting to login to the game: “Login Error: An unexpected error has occurred,” Assistant Community Manager, Gina Bruno said on the game’s forums. “This error message is due to the overwhelming demand for ESOTU and the high volume of traffic currently hitting our login servers.
“We understand this is frustrating, but we encourage you to continue to try logging in until you reach a screen stating that you’ve been placed into a queue. Once you’re in the queue, please do not leave the queue, close the game client, or otherwise navigate away from this screen.
“We’re working to get you into Tamriel as quickly as we can. Thanks for your continued patience and support!
We’ve joked a lot about The Elder Scrolls Online and how it’s a bit pants – but you have to look at it as an MMO set in the Elder Scrolls universe, and not Skyrim with MMO sensibilities, and you’re bound to have a better time with the game. Since release, there have been numerous changes to how the game works – not least of all its loss of a monthly subscription – that are keeping people happy to quest around Tamriel. Provided they can log in, of course.

Oh dear. The slightly broken game on PC is now slightly broken on console too… I’m sorry, is anyone really surprised? I think most people saw this coming a mile off.
For me, this just isn’t an Elder Scrolls game… Not like it should be anyway – not even close! And, because of that, it’ll be the first Elder Scrolls game I will not be purchasing since the very first one! And that says alot…

but its an MMO… I know I haven’t played all the elder games like the rest of the zealots here, but considering the time I had in oblivion and skyrim, Im happy how the game has turned out. Granted when it 1st launched, there was a lot of issues which have since been fixed. Heck I was reading an article yesterday about the difference between the mundus stones in Skyrim and ESO and how ESO has done a better job with the buffs the stones give.
Captain JJ the_scarrrr
June 10, 2015 at 09:02
With my 20+ hours spent on ESO I like to think I gave it a fair try.
Still disliked it very much.
Great MMO. Horrific Elder Scrolls.

Only had Bovril and Marmite a year ago for the first time (yea, I know, what childhood did I have?)
Pariah
June 10, 2015 at 09:28
I couldn’t stand either of those 2. They still make me frown in disgust. I honestly don’t know how anyone eats Marmite. Bovril I can understand, but it’s not great. Oxo is pretty good, but I restrict its use nowadays to stews for that extra meaty flavour. Let’s be honest, there are 100 things better than any of the 3 to put on bread.

Lol… Imagine buying a game, going home, installing it, downloading the obligatory Day 1 patch and, finally, after a wait that seemed excruciating, you kick off the game for the first time… It opens… It loads… You get to the log-in screen, you click the link… And are promptly either denied access to placed into a queue…
Wow… Just wow! We used to pay R700 for a full game. Then it was R700 for a game, sans dlc and with Day 1 patches to fix it. Now it’s R700 so we can experience a game that mimics real life… And makes you wait in a queue…

HAHAHA u guys know how to whine… wow. I hear maxipad is on discount for bulk purchases at makro. So lets understand this right. Average PS4 new release is around the R800 mark, so u happy to pay that price. But the problem is paying an extra R200 some nice extra exclusive stuff?
Pariah
June 10, 2015 at 09:12
Nope, if you’ve spent any time here at all you’d know that they complain about the R800 prices. It allows us PC players to throw the Steam Sale (which starts tomorrow, btw) in their face with our R50 and R100 games that they just paid R800 for a few months ago. 😛
Lothy
June 10, 2015 at 09:14
ah yes, being the part of the master race is a beautiful thing…
Pariah
June 10, 2015 at 09:18
Note my phrasing: “PC players.” We aint the master race. PC gamers are just as petty as console gamers. Only our debates are about which colour we prefer, red or green. And whether or not Steam is there to claim our souls. (It’s a ginger, I KNOW it!)

Lothy
June 10, 2015 at 09:18
regardless of ur personal preference in how u buy ur games, it doesn’t take away from the normal cost of a console game and the argument of spending a small percentage more to get additional content
HvR
June 10, 2015 at 09:25
Well it isn’t a small percentage anymore, think typical AAA console games total DLC cost is more than 50% original game cost.
Pariah
June 10, 2015 at 09:26
In this case it’s 20% more – the average extra cost for a digital deluxe edition. His point is still pretty solid.
The prices for console games are high, but it’s not restricted to this game at all – they all cost this much.
Hammersteyn
June 10, 2015 at 09:33

I was in a hurray, just typed out some stuff. And the regular commentators are experts at twisting words around. But playing dumb can be fun too. And so, in turn, I twist your words. Oh, look, another viscous circle. Much, much more dangerous than the vicious ones, trust me.
Sigh. I wish I could claim to be playing dumb more often. Would, for example, make the marriage much smoother.
(note, I love my wife dearly and we have a great relationship. I take license to make sarcastic, caustic comments alluding to stereotypical problems because it amuses me. I remember Yolande Green had a right go at me a while back for doing this.)
