Skyrim’s remastered Special Edition is free if you own the game and all of its DLC on PC

I can’t pretend to be excited for the Skyrim Special Edition – but that’s because I lost hundreds of hours of my life to the game, and that was enough for me. Plenty of people are excited that there’s a new version of one of their favourite games coming – and for good reason.

The game may have had middling combat, but its world-building and atmosphere were incomparable, and the new Special Edition of the game is more than just a remaster, with higher resolution assets and a few updates. It’s being rebuilt, with all-new features like “remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, screen-space reflections and more.”

Importantly, as with Fallout 4, it’ll bring the magic of mods to consoles – allowing players to create new quests, new armour and weapons and so, so much more. Unfortunately for console players, those who already own the game will have to buy it anew, something that won’t be the same for PC players, if they meet specific requirements.

IF you own Skyrim and all of its DLC (or Skyrim’s Legendary Edition) on Steam, you’ll get upgraded to the Skyrim Special Edition for free when it releases on October 28.

Here’s another look at the trailer

Or, you know, just use the mods available and you’re good to go.

Tbh, this is free. For those of us who have all of the DLC. But still, free. There’s actually very little to complain about.

I have all the DLC. So will be getting it. But all it’s going to be is an addition to my library. I’m not going to actually play it again. Why spend the effort and time on this then? I know Elder Scrolls VI is just around the corner. Bethesda is trying really hard to make us think it’s not. So maybe this is just a warmup to it being announced.

Would take a remastered Oblivion over a cashgrab any day of the week, but at least it’s free for the folk who already own it, which is a great start for end users looking for remasters of their old games.

    In other news, QUAAAAAAAAAAAKE

AND IT BETTER NOT FUCKING CRASH LIKE DOOOOOOOOM

Have you not heard about Valenwood? I suggest you google it. That could be the new Elder Scrolls.

Me too. Skyrim looked better, but Oblivion was just more fun to play.

It was a significant improvement over Morrowind. Which is where Skyrim fell a bit flat for me. Yeah, I clocked almost 200 hours on it, but apart from the improved graphics and alternate setting, it was extremely similar to Oblivion.

“and all of its DLC” – that seems to be a keyword I am not liking

In the old days, we called ’em expansion packs. Skyrim’s though was/is one of the better attempts at making a big game much more er… bigger.

I didn’t have any issues with Skyrim’s DLC. All of them added some decent content. That said. I bought all my DLCs on sale, so it was worth the price.

The hearthstone dlc or whatever it was called was a bit meh.

It wasn’t the best yea, but I think I paid very little on sale for it.

Dunno! I loved the game when it was first released – I also sunk over 100 hours into it – but: “Been there; got the t-shirt”.
