Manga/anime fans were disappointed when the popular Bleach finished its run. However, that despair does not need to last, as it appears there is a new live-action film already in development of the show.

This is based on a leak however, revealed on the site 2ch, which shows what appear to be authentic scans of next week’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. And while I wouldn’t want to speculate much on leaks, the detail within does lend itself to authenticity. According to the leak, the movie will star Sota Fukushi as the protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki. Fukushi himself is quoted as saying:

When I first heard they were doing a live-action Bleach, I was also surprised.

Bleach creator Tite Kubo is also interviewed in the article, where he mentions he will be assisting with the production to ensure the movie is a faithful representation of the anime show. What will please its fans.

My only concern is perhaps the hair color. If that color is in the live-action movie, it’d be strange, so I wonder what they’re going to do!

Kubo has little faith in the power of hairstylists in modern movies and while I don’t think the show’s iconic hair colours will all go down well, I’m pretty sure they will find something that fits the style. I don’t know much about Bleach itself (Editor’s note: It was fantastic up to the Aizen arc where it all fell apart, leaving it to limp to a pretty lame conclusion), but I think the style of Manga actually lends itself well to great film, especially their sprawling narratives and incredible characterization.

It has also been reported that Shinsuke Sato, who directed the live-action Gantz and I Am a Hero films, will be helming the picture, which is slated for a 2018 release. Which is actually not too far away if you consider the usual film development cycle. Sato’s style should also fit the type of film they are likely to want for this too.

If you are a Bleach fan, or even just a fan of manga, it seems this adaptation should be good hands.

    Live action film, meh.
The anime should have ended at the Aizen arc, Mugetsu was a fantastic finish.
The fullbring arc had potential, but had a weak story and wasnt carried through all that well into the new manga.
