I didn’t ask for this Call of Duty : Black Ops 3 teaser

BlackOps3

Another year, another Call of Duty. Like death, taxes, and Darryn being weird, these are the only certainties in life. Of course, with three studios working on Call of Duty now, each is given more than two years to make their next Call of Duty game – and this year, it’s up to Treyarch. They’re back this year with what’s more than likely a third Black Ops. Here’s what it’s about.

As expected, it takes a futuristic look at things, and likely keeps the futurist setting established by Advanced Warfare. In this trailer we see how “Mankind’s greatest mistake will be its inability to control the technology it’s created,” which thematically seems more than familiar.

It starts off with using drugs to improve human physique, moving on to mapping of the genome and then on to implants, nanotech and what seems very much like human augmentation, to DNA and brain upgrades. It eventually moves over to public outrage over “scientists playing God” and holy smokes, could this be any more like Deus Ex if it tried?

Probably, but then they’d get sued. And of course, were not the only ones to notice the similarity. The folks at Eidos Montreal obviously noticed too.

Of course, Call of Duty and Deus Ex play rather differently, so it’ll interest in the game will be up to how Treyarch handles this imperfect future in Black Ops III – and critically, its multiplayer.

That said, I don’t think Activision or Treyarch should expect this latest Call of Duty to do quite as well commercially. Consumers have been burned in some way or other by the last two COD games, and just about every game these days launches broken – one of the reasons that gamers aren’t pre-ordering games. Because it’s Call of Duty though, it’ll have a long tail – and if Treyarch, who’ve become a fan favourite – do it right, it could help reignite love for the Call of Duty brand.

The original Deus Ex is already light years ahead in story with any COD game.

Ag I don’t really care about that, if I liked COD games I’d be happy another one is coming & I’d expect them to look alike.

It’s now there’s a teaser, then it’ll be a piece of concept art, then a screen shot, then another tweet, then a trailer, then an interview, then another few screen shots, once every fortnight, then once a week, then twice a week, then every couple of days, then every day as they ramp up to release day, each one subjected to endless analysis. All designed to make you run out and preorder. Not enough coffee in the world to counteract the sheer snore-dom of it.

I put myself to sleep just writing that & thinking about it. I’m literally sleep-typing right now, figuratively speaking.

No wonder CoD players are so uptight, they’re getting short shafted…

Did not like Deus Ex and never finished it. Played all the COD games and enjoyed it although single player campaign too short, so I wait till it is on special to buy.

Apparently so. I haven’t played CoD since MW2 and that was *lol* 6 years ago.

Don’t have a lot of free time anymore, will rather wait for The Division or worthwhile titles now.

Hahaha!! That response from Eidos is just priceless!! But really, this is just pathetic… Not only did they reskin the same story every time in the CoD series, now they’re trying to reskin other stories on top of their crappy outdated engine and calling it a game… Really? I just don’t understand why they can’t come out with an idea of their own

Well copying somebody else is probably more original than copying yourself for the 15th time.

BTW when did Darryn start working on the new CoD? #TooSoon?
