Xbox Live “unacceptable for meaningful free-to-play”

I’m really starting to think that the chaps over at Wargaming – the folks responsible for free-to-play phenomenon World of Tanks – didn’t actually read any of their contracts regarding bringing their game to the Xbox 360. Not long after the big announcement, they started getting a bit moany. First, they complained about the game needing Xbox Live Gold, and now they say that Xbox Live’s policies just aren’t suited to their game.

“The good thing is with online games, sometimes if you screw up, you can do frequent updates,” Wargaming CEO Victor Kisly told Polygon. “But one of the biggest challenges with Microsoft was the frequency of updates because the QA process and certification process takes an extremely long time,” he said.

“Totally unacceptable for meaningful free-to-play.”

On the PC platform, developers can vomit out patches and updates as often as they like – but on consoles, it’s a lengthy process that until recently, cost a lot of money. Still, world of Tanks is coming to the 360, and Wargaming wants to do all it can to make the platform better for free to play.

“We are working with them to do quicker updates,” Kislyi said.

“We will see, there is a lot of work on the technical side and on the administrative side which should resolve in the acceptable quality of the product, including updates of the product including speed and rates. So we will see.”

We will see indeed. World of Tanks Xbox 360 edition is hitting the console next month, where it will still be a boring, money-grubbing grind-fest.

    1) Don’t publish broken games
    2) Read your TOS and EULAs.
    3) as a dev wanting to publish do some research on the market you are publishing to / on.

Lords, all these games that cost millions to make, and one has to worry about day one patches still? When I bought Zelda: A Link to the past, there were no fucking patches! Other than the one on my eye, Pirate stage of life! Arrrrrrrrr!

Love playing World of tanks and for those idiot comments some made… the game is out in full but they add more content and here and there make some changes to gameplay. NOT unfinished and NOT broken

Its and fricken drug and it is actually free to play, you can access all content without paying a cent except for camo pattern which has a really small bonus in game. You can design your own camo if you like but it does not carry the in game bonus.

Ok this is HILARIOUS. It’s almost like the developers of World of Tank have been living in a cocoon the last 7 years. What do you mean you have to pay to play online? HAHAHAHAH!! That’ll teach them to read their contracts.
