The Wii U arrives on our shores on November 30, and will most likely cost a pretty penny or several thousand, based on inflation. Still, there’s some decent hardware packed in there, primarily that GamePad tablet controller. Heck, if you’ve got the cash, you might even want to buy two of them to play games on. Except you won’t be able to, because games that support such fancy dual-gaming capabilities, won’t be out until next year at least.

Nintendo of America has confirmed that only Japan will be getting their hands on extra GamePads, in an effort to avoid any marketing confusion, seeing as how launch games won’t support two players using those controllers.

“The launch window is all going to be single-GamePad. The dual-GamePad functionality, we expect to start seeing that in games sometime next year,” Bill Trinen said. “Our feeling is, we’re not going to sell another GamePad if you don’t have something to use it with. We’ll make that available as an additional accessory when there’s content to support it.”

So for those of you with the cash to buy two of those GamePads, hard cheese then. Guess you’ll just have to waggle your arms about with some last-gen motion controllers in a co-op game instead. Or break a vase on the head of your GamePad-wielding cohort.
