Troy Baker impressed by Kiefer Sutherland, “glad that I wasn’t Snake”

Kiefer snake

Troy Baker is the go-to name in gaming voice acting. Between him and Nolan North, it’s like the six degrees of Kevin Bacon game – they’ve been in everything. Of course he’s also lending his voice to a character in Metal Gear Solid 5, but he’s not playing Snake, and he’s glad about that. In fact, he’s rather impressed with the guy who is.

I’ve had mixed feelings about Kiefer Sutherland ever since an Icelandic friend of mine told me a weird story about him getting kicked out of a bar in Reykjavik. Still, apparently he came prepared to work hard when it came to voicing Snake in MGS5 According to Baker, Sutherland won’t disappoint us.

To his credit, Kiefer Sutherland knocked it out of the freaking park, and he came in and he put the work in. I love David Hayter, I love David, he’s a good dude and he’s Snake, but so is Kiefer. And that guy showed up, rolled up his sleeves and got dirty on this game. So reserve judgement until you play it. You only have like two more months left and trust me it’ll be worth it.

Voice acting is such a sensitive thing. Some characters are so completely captured by their voice actors, and some are totally ruined by a poor choice of actor. It really is much like acting in any genre, but without the ability to see facial expression or movements, the voice really need to capture the essence of the character. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is coming out so soon now, I suppose we can come to our own conclusions.

I’m actually torn on whether or not to get this game. On the 1 hand, it’s Metal Gear Solid, it’s Kojima and it’ll be awesome! On the other, there’s Konami – a company who have gone so far off the reservation that I want nothing to do with them or their ridiculousness!

I’ll do it simply because it has Kojima’s name plastered on it

Konami is making casino games and mobile games after this. Plus their insanity only came to front recently.

Then there’s Silent Hills… I will NEVER forgive them for that! Nor will I forgive them for the butchering they’ve put that franchise through in recent years… That’s why I’m so torn – I don’t want to support them in any way, shape or form! @#$% ’em! I think I’ll just wait and get it 2nd hand at BT or some such – that way, I’m buying it from the previous owner (flawed logic engage!)…

You cant make any meaningful statement by buying a game for the sole purpose of supporting the company behind it. You like what you see about the game’s content, give money, they give game, anything else in your relationship between who made it and you is irrelevant.
