I’m starting to think that the next level of gaming won’t be about how many horses a console has underneath its hood, but by what you can augment your experience with. Take the Oculus Rift for instance. People are going nuts for that VR accessory. Now imagine combining that, with actual impacts from your gameplay session.
That’s just what the ARAIG vest claims to be capable of. The jacket may not be the first such device to ever think of bringing actual gameplay impact from the virtual world to the real world, it does at least do so with some style.
As Real As It Gets claims that the jacket can work with any platform or game, as it haptic feedbacks a few bruises onto your frame. The ARAIG has three layers, and includes a microphone and surround sound speakers to really drive that bullet impact home.
The jacket ain’t cheap though. It’s on Kickstarter right now, looking for $900 000 in funds ($27 461 pledged at the time of writing), and you’ll need to slap down at least $300 in order to secure one for yourself.
I kinda dig it. I’d want to combine it with an Oculus Rift and a shooter game on the Nintendo Wii, a move which would no doubt result in some haptic feedback slap on my face when I waggle my arms through several pieces of breakable furniture.

So if you used this with the Xbox One would the kinetic think it’s staring at a body full of eyes? “Xbox One: Sorry, you don’t have the necessary number of licences for this game. Xbox Off…”

All we need now is an omnidirectional “treadmill” and I rate we pretty much have VR.
