These girl scouts can earn a badge in gaming

Wilderness girwls!

Man, I hated the week that I spent in the girl scouts. Learning such skills such as wilderness survival, setting up camps and being told that I horrified people when I tried to sell the biscuits while dressed in a green skirt that was a bit north of the knees. If I had known that I could have earned a badge in gaming though, I would have stuck with them though.

Following on from the announcement last month that the boy scouts of America would be able to earn a badge in game design, comes news that the girl scouts are now also eligible for that piece of fabric. Sort of.

According to Girl Gamer via Ars Technica, while the male campers only need to come up with a game design, the lady scouts are going to have more of a challenge on their hands as they’ll need to also create their game from scratch.

Kind of unfair I reckon. Still, it’s a postive step forward anyway, and one that’ll get the little ladies some proper experience in not just designing said game, but creating it as well. It’s all thanks to the Women In Games International teaming up with the Los Angeles branch of the girl scouts, to make it so.

“Our ultimate goal is to create a STEM-aligned video game badge for the Girl Scouts of the United States of America,” said Amy Allison, vice president at WIGI to Girl Gamers.

Creating this badge will get young girls excited in technology and science and let them know that they, too, can have a career in the video game industry.

Now buy my damn biscuits already. I didn’t shave my legs for nothing.

  1. Brenda, we all know you wouldn’t even have been able to earn a badge in gaming. But it’s good to dream. You keep that up. Never give up hope.

One of my favourite scenes ever:

“I am your vorst nightmare *sniff*.”
“No, my worst nightmare is waking up without my penis.”
“Okay, then I’m your second vorst nightmare *sniff*”
