The Steam Halloween Sale has begun

Hocus pocus

All Hallows’ Eve, or Halloween, is all about that time when those spirits from beyond return to haunt us. Remember the ghost of your paycheck, or how about the spirit of your backlog? Well prepare to light some candles, the Steam Halloween Sale has begun and it’s after your money, and your soul.

Running from now until 3 November, the Steam Halloween Sale has some truly terrifying discounts. I can’t list them all, but here are some of my favorites:

  • Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition = $6.79 (-66%)
  • Bioshock 2 = $4.99 (-75%)
  • Left 4 Dead 2 = $4.99 (-75%)
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines = $4.99 (-75%)
  • Darksiders Franchise Pack = $8.99 (-85%)
  • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition = $3.99 (-80%)
  • Alice: Madness Returns = $4.99 (-75%)
  • Spec Ops: The Line = $5.09 (-83%)
  • F.E.A.R. Collection = $13.74 (-75%)
  • Amnesia Collection = $8.74 (-75%)

There are many, many more, so you should definitely go check out the sales and see if anything on your wishlist is available for cheap. Actually, no, don’t – save yourselves!

The Halloween sale is always fun and definitely has some great offerings, but mainly it just helps me prepare my impulse control for the Holiday Sale. With so many excellent games coming up for so little money, we really are spoiled by Steam. Of course, if Steam also sold me some extra hours in the day, then Gaben might really be worthy of the level of gamer-worship he receives.

Have you already gone shopping, or are you saving yourself for this weekend?

I just wish they’d discounted the triple pack. Would’ve bought that in a heartbeat. With the individual discounts it’s cheaper to buy each of them alone that the trilogy pack.

If you buy The Witcher 2 on Steam. Redeem the code on GOG.com for a free DRM-FREE copy and get lots of content like making videos, pictures, Triss Playboy pictures, avators, ect.

You will have both. Buy one game and get another game with more content like a art book.

Plus if you have The Witcher 1 and 2 on STeam you can redeem those codes on GOG.com and get a discount for The Witcher 3 on GOG.com.

The game costs $59.99 on both GOG.com and Steam. There a discount running on both where the pre-order costs $53.99.

If you have either The Witcher 1 or The Witcher 2 on GOG.com then the pre-order price is $50.99.

If you have both The Witcher 1 and 2 on GOG.com then the pre-order price is $47.99.

As I said before. If you have The Witcher games on Steam, you can redeem the codes on GOG.com and the same applies to physical copies.

If you buy the game on GOG.com it means that they get more of the money to make Cyberpunk 2077.

So where ever you buy the game, also buy a GOG.com copy.

          • Ryanza

            October 31, 2014 at 10:53

You shouldn’t ask me that cause you know.

The Witcher 2 is still technically a good game. Graphics and lighting and all all that jazz. The Witcher 2 is like the standard where these new console games will only get to now.

The combat takes a while to get used to. The story and design can get a bit boring half way through, to some.

I would still be playing it now but I have forced myself to stop playing it. I’m still waiting for some books to arrive so I can finish the damn books. Then I want to play all the games from over again.

The Witcher 2 to me is a game that I can play over and over again, which I have. Just love the game.

            October 31, 2014 at 12:01

Don’t lie. It must be played as much times as one can play it. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve played it. And I always tend to play it the same damn way. I see myself playing this game for years.

Only started with Witcher 1 now. I’m really enjoying it. Picked up the second game now because I know I’ll jump straight into that once I’m done.

What confuses me though is I can’t play this game on full graphics. I’m sure something is wrong with my PC, but no idea what. When I got my PC I gave Crysis 2 a good run for its money.

Trust me, It’s the Engine. CDPR did what they could with the Aurora Engine, but it’s still limited. so it’s not your Rig.
When you get to Witcher 2 and can’t run full graphics (sans Ubersampling) then it’s your rig 😛

Thanks Viking. I’ll look at upgrading for Witcher 3. I’m a little nervous as to what will be needed though. If I need something more expensive than a GTX760 then I might make the jump to PS4.

          • Viking Of Divinity

            October 31, 2014 at 11:18

I’m guessing here, but a 700 series should be fine to run it at a smooth framerate, but to max in out, you’ll probably need some kind of hypothetical future GPU from space. 🙂

Ryanza, can’t find the comment you replied to, only saw the email… I still need to buy the GTX760. Will wait until closer to the time to see what is needed and what options there are. Currently still running an HD6850

            October 31, 2014 at 11:48

I’m just hoping for nothing crazy like 8gb of vram needed. But that’s for high end.

I’ll be using The Witcher 3 to see if I need to upgrade anything to reach full settings.

But other graphics should result in a playing version of the game. The Witcher 3 demo was said to be running on a mid range graphics card.
Wait for xmas specials and get a nice graphics card.

          • Frost

            October 31, 2014 at 12:38

I was going to wait longer than that, but xmas sales might not be a bad idea. I’m going to need some advise at the time though. I’ve been out of the game so long I don’t know where to start anymore.

          • Ryanza

            October 31, 2014 at 12:51

Ask the guys on Carbonite.co.za for graphics card advice.

When I went from console back to PC I too didn’t know about anything about where graphic cards stood. I just bought a second hand graphics card and took it from there. Got a 7970 now and it’s still standing strong after all the years.

I still don’t know about Nvidia cards. RED team all the way.

          • Frost

            October 31, 2014 at 13:18

Thanks for the link, I’ll go and have a look.

            I seem to jump between intel/amd ati/nvidia like a cheap whore. ;P
At the moment running an AMD ATI combo.

The HD6850 annoys me the last little while. It’s just as if it doesn’t age well. I could run everything at pretty much max until Hitman absolution(a little bit of me died when I had to turn the graphics down). It was like a switch where the card could handle anything to absolutely nothing in no time. I can only play Skyrim if I turn the AA off, otherwise it bombs out when it tries to render fire. Have you seen Skyrim without AA? Minecraft looks better ;P I couldn’t finish Tomb Raider because of timing issues on the quick time events. 8 hours of gameplay down the drain.

It could be that the card is damaged, which I doubt, or it’s just the driver support on the card that is not up to standard. So now I’m switching to Nvidia with the hope that it will age a bit more graciously. The only doubt I have of switching is the fact that both consoles are running ATI, so I’m wondering if the games going forward might be a little bit better optimized for them in this cycle.

Sorry, this comment ran away from me 😛

          • Ryanza

            October 31, 2014 at 13:42

I switched to PC to play Rage and Skyrim. So I got a second-hand 5870 and all the games I through at it could max out. Well except Batman AC. 7970 sorted Batman AC out.

With Skyrim and that 5870 I just had to dial back the lighting option but I believe that option was CPU based.

And now a days Nvidia is playing dirty with some of their DLL’s. Some DLL’s will over render some stuff in the background so that tests will show worse results on AMD cards.

Games are now being released with crazy vram requirements. I don’t know if it’s just bad optimization or if they just want us to buy new expensive graphic cards.

The 6850 might be getting old now with it’s 1gig vram. I see 760 2gb vram is R3300 and 760 4gb vram is R4000. It might just be better for the long run to spend like R5000 on a decent graphics card and know you safe for the next couple of years.

          • Frost

            October 31, 2014 at 13:54

My gut also tells me that the R5000 range card might be the “smarter” move. The problem is I don’t game enough to really make that money back through cheaper games. This makes me wonder if I should just go back to console and get myself a PS4.

It’s not going to be long before I’ll have to replace the cpu, mobo and ram as well.

On the one hand I’m nervous about the life span of the new-gen console, on the other hand these VRAM requirements popping up has me worried.

I feel the same man. So happy that game got it. The Halloween sale is really nice after this week too (not that my week is over just yet).

Yeah, 3 was maybe a better games in terms of weird stuff, but the story in NV was a bit more engaging. Both?

3 had much better DLC, truly worth it DLC

Id say 3, but if youre into the whole modding thing, do NV, NV got all the skyrim modders
the smoothness of the ENBs is just spectacular.

Just too many. Fallout is great for an open world experience. FEAR is scary, but only the first is really worth it. Darksiders is pretty. Bioshock is always a winner for story and atmosphere.
      I bought Witcher (amongst others).
Oh, just too many to choose from.

Fallout 3, if not played, play it. Listen to the radio. See the people.

Fallout 3 with that radio on makes the game. Flip. Now I have to play it again. (I always keep it installed for this very reason)

I am here to testify to the good work of Dr. Olokum. 4 years ago, my husband left home, he never returned, no phone calls, no letters, no emails, no sign of him anywhere. My daughter got sick with multiple sclerosis, things were so hard for me. I had lost hope, 2 years ago, I met a psychic told me it would help me, I paid over 500 and still nothing happened, I lost hope. completely, my daughters situation worsened day.last each month, I saw an ad on the good.works all professionals, I gave them a try? I ordered three spells (Bring Lover. back Healing spell and Career spells). Within weeks, my husband called me and told me it was. sorry and wants to get back to me and that he would explain everything when I get back, three days later, I got a new job with a company of loans and finance, at this time, the condition of my daughter ?? s is.getting better every day and I hope it would be fine in a matter of days.I want to thank, LAVENDERLOVESPELL@YAHOO.COM for their efforts and for bringing my life back to normal and so close.
