The Lazygamer Podcast Remastered – Episode 2: Our console history

Hmmm, mahogany...

I’ve had plenty of consoles over the years. Some were quirky and memorable like my Nintendo GameCube, some existed only in my mind like a Sega Saturn. Still, I’ve been fortunate enough to get my hands on many consoles as I was growing up, as were the rest of the Lazygamer crew. And that’s the topic today on The Lazygamer Podcast Remastered Definitive GOTY Edition.

We’ve switched tactics after people asked us to, and have uploaded the latest podcast to Soundcloud only. Let us know if you prefer an audio-only option, or if you actually like having a vodcast instead. Or maybe both, I’m a workaholic without a life anyway.

So what’s your console history like? Are you new to the game, hopping in with a PlayStation 4, or have you been around throughout the ages, collecting consoles and trying to avoid the Quickening? Or maybe consoles are for great big wimps, and your 386 Pentium is still the knees of the bees.

Let us know below.

The Year was 1994. My Dad Walks in with a Sega Megadrive. I was ecstatic! Of course, I got some games too. I Got Afterburner II, Earthworm Jim, Cool Spot and Sonic 2. It was AWESOME!

Lucky bugger. I remember begging my parents for one. Used to go round to mates houses to play theirs.

First PC I think was a Pentium playing California Games and Test Drive. Upgraded to 286 and so on, spending hours playing Dune, Heroes of Might and Magic and then into the Command and Conquer series.
First console had to be a knock off NES with the billion in one cartridges favorites had to be Mario, Adventure Island and Excite Bike. Eventually got a Gameboy then only jumped into the consoles on a PS2.

Yes, arcade machines FTW! If it wasn’t for me needing a PC for school my parents probably would never have gotten me one. Definitely never have gotten any kind of console haha.

    Well then..
On behalf of all of us: THANK YOU!
Playing through SC really does make it easier, on my bandwidth and my eyes too 😛

First PC was an IBM XT (family pass on in the early 90’s); got my 80’s games exposure from it with CalGames and Commander Keen, Test Drive.

Then got the NES Chinese rip-off with XX-in-1 cartridge with all the classic, was really hooked on Islander and Sky Destroyer.

Then my world changed forever, Pentium133 with 16MB RAM at the end of 95, C&C, Red Alert, Total Annihilation, Doom, Qauke…..

Never could convince my dad for a full upgrade, managed to get 80MB and a 3DFx Banshee. Then opened up my world to electronics (which became my career). Started modding my motherboard to ramp up the voltage to to the CPU. Got a monster heatsink and split the power supply rails to add extra and larger fans. Manage to push that Penitum to the high 160’s Mhz. Extended the life of the PC to 2000 when I was the first of all my friends to have a 1GHz+ PC thanks to AMD’s undercutting Intel in a price war. The overclocked Pentium still runs, gifted it a person as an word processor a couple of years back.

Then had a gaming lull from my 3rd of university only playing the odd CoD or Half-life multiplayer game. Then revived it again when I started working with mid-range gaming PC and a PS3.

Atari 2600, Radofin, Intellivision, Sega Genesis, Sega CD(add-on), Sega Saturn, Atari 800XL, Sinclair, C64, NES. Starting with a 286 pc and then all the iterations up until today’s i7. As well as PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and now Xbox One. Shit, I just realized I have no life 🙁
