We’ve had plenty of sequels as usual this year, but nowhere near as many rule of three games as what 2011 saw. But mixed in with those twos, threes and fours were plenty of new games, ranging from action through to puzzle. But out of all those new intellectual properties, only one of them could be the best, and that brand spankin’ new future franchise is…

Sleeping Dogs

Sandbox games have come a long way since Grand Theft Auto 3 opened up a whole new genre, but rarely have they managed to be as satisfying as what Sleeping Dogs was. A tight story, great voice actors, pulp Hong Kong action gleaned from various cult favourite films and a city that was alive and bustling with activity.

Mix in some of the best gunplay seen in such a genre game in many a year, alongside a meaty combat system that put other titles to shame, and you had a full package here on your hands. One that came complete with pork buns.
