Phew, my wallet somehow survived the Steam Exploration Sale! It’s only temporarily safe though, as an inevitable Christmas sale is probably just around the corner. In preparation, I’ve upped my defenses to Valve’s platform tenfold, ensuring a guaranteed survival against another discounted onslaught. Hang on a second, who’s that on the horizon? A counter-attack? Oh thank goodness, they’re waving a white fla… wait a second. Humble Store, what are you doing? WHY ARE YOU WAVING THOSE CHEAP GAMES IN MY GENERAL DIRECTION? MEDIC!
The Humble Store is having their Winter Sale, and it’s going to have over 500 discounted games over the next fourteen days! Yes, I know you hate me for bringing this to your attention, but it’s because deep down I love you and want to see you go bankrupt. Here are some of my recommendations on the current specials.
- FINAL FANTASY IV – $7.99 (OMG old school JRPG)
- BROFORCE – $9.99 (local is lekker)
- Tomb Raider GOTY Edition – $7.49 (no brainer… great price for a great game)
- The Walking Dead: Season 1 – $6.24 (Decisions. ZOMBIES. Regret. What more do you want?)
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – $29.99 (cheaper than local retailers at time of writing)
- Screencheat 4-pack – $9.99 (buy one get three free? Did Geoff do the maths on this deal?)
- Amnesia: The Dark Descent – $6.59 (NOPENOPENOPENOPENOPE!)
- Alan Wake Franchise – $3.99 (more like lumberjack-ghost-murder-simulator AMIRITE?)
These are just a few of many discounted titles. Remember, there will be new sales for the next two weeks, so be sure to check the Humble page every day!
Also, 10% of every purchase will be donated to these charities: American Red Cross, Child’s Play Charity, Charity Water, World Land Trust, and Electronic Frontier Foundation. You won’t just be spoiling yourself this Christmas, you’re helping all of them too.

I’m still plodding through the Exploration sale acquisitions. Currently 9 hours into Mass Effect 2. Finished ME1 in 13 hours…. did I do it wrong?

No. But you could have done it in 15 minutes.

Like Fallout 3. One of the QA people did it in about two hours, full story from start to end. I took over 100 hours, DLC included.

Funny, I do not feel like a filthy peasant. You sure? Really?
Feel distinctly middle class? Well, what we call middle class anyway, with wage gaps skewed like they are.

ME1 in 13 hours? Did you do all the sidequests and stuff? That is, I think, a bit fast for a first play-through. But each to their own, maybe you got irritated at some of the speech and skipped it? I admit to doing that sometimes, losing part of the story or plot because I cannot listen to some twat go on.

I generally have subtitles on, and read the dialogue faster than they speak it… And I did a fair number of sidequests, i think… The sidequests are kindof hard to find though… ME2 improves on that front, quest tracking is much easier….I do however prefer ME1’s control scheme… ME2 has Too many actions bound to spacebar, and I can’t split them? Use/Sprint/Cover? jesus… t

Yeah, the games played quite differently. It was a real shock to suddenly have the same but different guns and powers. Not the same game.
ME1 quest system did not exists. I explored 100% of every single cluster and I found quests on planets, was not given them.
I also read very quickly, so I definitely skip. Subtitles are on in ALL my games, cause sometimes I get irritated by sound and play games in near silence

Nothing pisses me off more that shitty mixing, sometimes music will just overpower dialogue. It made sense in say… the Club scene in Max Payne. but subtitles ftw.

If you do not have Shadows of Mordor, just make a plan.
It is short, but so much fun. Batman Arkham Asylum with swords and orcs and stuff. And the speech is very, very amusing.
