The Elder Scrolls Online gets a new name with new pricing model

I knew it wouldn’t last. The Elder Scrolls Online simply couldn’t sustain the subscription model. Few games really can. Now that it’s going pay-once-and-play, it’s getting a new name and a fresh launch trailer. But will that also mean it gets some new players?

While everyone was sleeping, The Elder Scrolls Online was dubbed The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Existing players will be given an option to upgrade to ESO Plus membership which grants free access to upcoming DLC and a 10% boost to character progression (not that it’s pay to win or anything, right?) as well as some in-game currency allowance.

Sure, the game looks pretty good, but it didn’t wow me when I played it. That said, it could just be that the console release will make it worthwhile. Of course, we still don’t really know when that console release is coming. Perhaps when it does we’ll see a real spike in players.

Was the subscription model the thing keeping you away? Will you dish out the cash for the game now that it’s a once-off purchase, or does the online world of Tamriel hold less of an appeal for you than just replaying Morrowind or Skyrim for a tenth time?

The game was essentially built around single player with other people there to annoy you. You could not even group up properly FFS. Hope they fixed all that but I could not really care less.

At least I got a statue out of it.

Guess now is not a good time to state that I’ve never played Skyrim.

I did nearly everything else the vanilla game allowed and even more that it didn’t.

I put it off for as long as I could because when I finish the main story I see a game as finished.

Same here. I tried to do everything in Skyrim and only then did I decide, oh yes the main quest. But by that time you are so strong it’s a bit of a joke really.

I’m not really fond of subscription models. The way pricing works is all wrong. If I buy a six month subscription but only play half of the time because there is other games out there I get billed irregardless. So I’ll keep an I on this. Nice trailer btw, but it doesn’t have anything on this…

So am I correct in saying that once you buy it there will be no form of in game purchases i.e pay to win?

I will definately get this game for ps4 when the price has been reduced.

    Won’t get this 🙁
    ( EVER!!! )

I feel the style of the game is too far away from what the other games were like ( Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim – Not sure about Arena, as I’ve never played it )

If they do something like this to Fallout, I’m going all fetal and and crying my eyes out 😐
