The beauty of Comic Con is that if you happen to be there in civvies, then you’re the odd one out. The event sees a ton of folks descend on the geek culture mecca every year, with costumes getting more and more elaborate every year. Here’s a taste of that dedicated love for [INSERT POP CULTURE REFERENCE HERE].
Over at Tested, Norman Chan took a lot of photos of the costume madness. No, that’s an understatement. He took way more than “a lot”, and ended up with a gallery of 864 photos through this link. Check it out, it’s actually pretty awesome. Here’s some of them. Here’s a bunch of the Harley Quinn’s seen at the event, so that Gavin can cheer up.
Note to self: Cosplay as Harley Quinn next year and ruin Gavin’s fantasies forever.
It also wouldn’t be a Comic Con without Deadpool making an appearance of some sort. Well, rest assured, he was there. And managed to piss off a few religious weirdos in the process. Again.
But for a more visual look at the event, check out this wrap video from Sneaky Zebra. Great music, great participants and dutch angles. Awww yeah.
Locally, we’ve got plenty of events that also cater towards people wanting to dress up. And I dare a bunch of you to show up at rAge this year and show me what ya got.

Go Deadpool! Man, what were the religious loons even doing there?

They’re there every year. And frankly, as a Christian, I feel a bit embarrassed. According to them, nobody is suppose to have a little innocent fun. 🙁

I thought I was just missing something as I’m not religious. But good to hear that it is a bit strange! Is this perceived as evil? I remember my neighbour when I was young who was also Christian saying I was playing with the devil when I did D&D, thought it may have something to do with that…

Yeah, you get people who are much more conservative, but you get that in every religion. Some even suggested that Harry Potter was evil and it lured the youth the Satanism. Which is off-course total bullshit.
I believe that you need to know the difference between what’s real and what’s not, and what not, and what is pure blasphemy and what’s not. The zealots out there can’t distinguish. They are often part of some different church with strange views. I say, I will respect they’re opinion (like I do for all people) and move on. That doesn’t mean I agree with them.
It’s like calling all Muslims terrorist extremists because there’s a few nut jobs who blow everything up in the name of God. It’s not the case. I know a few Muslims, who are all some of the most caring people I know.
The biggest reason I say they make me feel a bit embarrassed is because people will create a stereotype for all Christians. We are not all the case. Some of us are gamers, and love comics and fantasy. It’s a form escapism from the “real” world.
Forgive me for the long post…

You are more than welcome to. I share a similar sentiment with @CaptainNemo42:disqus that you will ALWAYS have people with different belief systems. If it is not affecting me, I do not care what they are. As an atheist I hold that respect for ones fellow man is very important.

I am a Christian. I have played various role playing games, like D&D and so forth. That type of thought just annoys me. It is poor, lossy thinking, perpetuated by the peer pressure brigade.
Really, really, gets me. And enough said.

Love you long time Dazza Spice. Good to know that people are finally starting to see that not all Christians are Bible Bashing haters.

Loved both the videos. Wow, the effort that goes into that cosplay! My favorite was Iron Man though….toward the end, with the actual irons.
