Spring update look at all the flowers lolol

Remember that time when Battlefield was all about, you know, an actual battle field with tanks and planes and not cops n robbers driving couches and cars around? Pepperidge (cabbage) farm remembers! Don’t worry, EA remember too, because they haven’t abandoned support for Battlefield 4 in favour of the newer Hardline. A new patch is coming to the former, and it arrives later today.

The finer details haven’t been shared yet. All will be revealed when the patch lands – which should be in the next couple of hours across all platforms:

  • PC: Multiplayer will be offline for 1h starting 08.00 UTC / 1.00 AM PDT.
  • Xbox One: Multiplayer will be offline for 1h starting 09.00 UTC / 2.00 AM PDT.
  • Xbox 360: Multiplayer will be offline for 1h starting 10.00 UTC / 3.00 AM PDT.
  • PS4: Multiplayer will be offline for 1h starting 11.00 UTC / 4.00 AM PDT.
  • PS3: Multiplayer will be offline for 1h starting 12.00 UTC / 5.00 AM PDT.

What EA have revealed already though are new weapons, balances, the return of a popular game mode, and some stability and netcode updates.

Here’s the new firepower you can expect to shoot people in the face with when the patch lands (via VG247):

New fan favourite Assault Rifle
Picked based on its unique burst gameplay and massive fan desirability

New Carbine
A unique bullpup carbine with built-in vertical grip

New PDW
A unique PDW with built-in silencer

New Sidearm
Unique long range “sniper” sidearm using magnum rounds

New LMG
Magazine fed LMG, which with the new weapons balance, plays in between a belt-fed LMG and an AR – your “run and gun” LMG

Along with these new toys comes a game mode that is one of my personal favourites. Remember “gungame” from Counter-Strike? This is essentially Battlefield’s version of it:

Gun Master is played like a Team Deathmatch game. The twist is that you don’t get to choose the weapons used. You swap weapons every time you get two consecutive kills on an opponent and whoever is the first player to get a kill with the final weapon wins!

I played it myself back in Battlefield 3’s DLC, Close Quarters. It was a ton of fun!

From what I’ve heard, loads of people have given up on Hardline and gone back to Battlefield 4. Is this true? Do you prefer fighting war over crime?

How can it be a fan favourite weapon if it’s new? Is it iconic as well?

Those don’t seem like very Star Wars-y weapons. ;P

For an FPS it was the most boring game I have ever played… A “first person shooter” that actually rewards you for not shooting anything. I spent more time sneaking around than participating in any real gun battles… Thats not a battlefield its a game of hide n seek.

I kinda sealed my fate selling my old gen console no BF3 on the PS4, so I just stopped playing battlefield.

I got Hardline because I was really hopeful about the cops and robbers twist… Traded it in one week later. It was terrible.

…given up on BFH. No servers really running at all in SA, and got to play overseas with a 190ms ping. Problems with the game, so playing more BF4 again!

After quitting on BF4 PC version because it just wasn’t fun compared to the last… 4 BF games, (and selling my Xbox 360 version originally within 3 days of buying it) I just this week bought BF4 on PS4 special with all the DLC and despite having a few rounds of utter molestation towards my rear end, I was very surprised to find that the game is a lot of fun again.

Good news guys, I think Battlefield 4 is finally in a state that’s ready to be launched and sold!

That game should never have been released on prev gen, it was a farce. Areas like the top of the skyscraper in Shanghai, the current versions have tables, chairs, umbrellas, bar counters, curtains etc. The prev gen version was an empty floor with empty rooms and plain windows. With lower player count and less stuff in the levels the gameplay was slow, boring, ugly in modes like conquest they were actually just underpopulated. It really just should never have happened.

At rAge I spoked with a DICE producer about the fact that the Beta was like this and if the final release was going to be any better, to which he replied.

” Well you see… beta beta, beta beta beta, beta. Beta, beta (beta) beta, beta beta ‘beta beta beta. betabetabetabeta’, beta beta” so he completely avoided the question, chalked up the issues I brought up as “its just the beta so it isnt a reflection of the final product”. And then they went ahead and released the final product which was EXACTLY the same as the beta with all its issues.

BF3 was still great, still the lower player count but the majority of the game was still a very close experience, you could tell that BF4 just wasnt supposed to happen, but they did it anyway for the sales.

Hopefully they learned a valuable lesson but I doubt it.
