It’s looking more and more like the Xbox 360 version of Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken is gimped. Not only does it have fewer playable characters (though many of them are on the disc), but it looks like you won’t be able to invite a friend around, and have them join you in some co-op matches online – though you’ll be able to do just that on the PS3.

The manual for the game says otherwise – but it’s something you just won’t be able to do on the Xbox 360.

"The reason for this difference,” says Capcom’s Christian Svensson “is because of the architecture differences between [Xbox Live] gamertags and PSN IDs. I’m not sure of the technical details, but basically it amounts to: Sony made it so you can mix and match online and offline, and Microsoft made it so you can’t."

That all sounds quite plausible, considering Microsoft’s push for Xbox Live, until you realise it’s just not true. Games like Halo, Gears of War, Madden and even Netherrealms’ Mortal Kombat  allow you to take your Gold-less, proximate buddies online with you. According to Svensson, the feature won’t be patched in to the 360 version later – so it’s probably best to pick this one up on PS3 if you have the choice.
