My worst fear has come true. I can just see it now. I’ll be playing Arkham Origins in a couple of months, and I’ll find myself clobbering some goons on a cold night, before I keep one of them awake to whisper in his ear…I’m Batman. And then out of nowhere, I’ll hear else someone shout “NO I’M BATMAN!”. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
That’s a multiplayer nightmare that might be transferred to Arkham Origins, according to sources at Kotaku. Their Deep Throat says that the game will be the first in the franchise to have such a mode, and will allow gamers to play as either hero or villain.
One such scenario that was detailed, would have players as members of one of the Joker or Bane gangs, working to take down Batman and Robin. Players will also get to strut their stuff as big league villains such as Deathstroke, Black Mask, Firefly, Killer Croc and Deadshot.
Take this news with a pinch of Clayface, but it’s not too farfetched to imagine that Warner Bros would want to tap into some multiplayer revenue for the upcoming game. Gotham City Impostors had a more violent version of said Batman on Joker multiplayer, but that proved to be a decent money-maker.
Arkham Origins is currently being developed by Warner Bros Montreal (with Armature Studio doing the handheld tie-ins), as the original studio behind the superb Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games, Rocksteady, has moved on. It’ll be out on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC on October 25.

Did Gotham City Imposters actually do well? That is surprising. Never played it mind you, just thought that it would bomb, reviews were okay.

So the 3 golden years 2009-2011 of arkham asylum and arkham city might be coming to an end. Seeing as the last good batman games before that were on the megadrive, snes in the early 90s we should expect to have another golden age around 2027…
edit : cryofreezing for anyone?

How will they justify having lots of batmans and jokers running around? I don’t get how it would work.

So stick with the single player and leave the (alledged) multiplayer to the 12 year old spawn campers.
