Stats! Developers love to boast about them, and lazy writers such as myself who really need that cup of tea in the morning in order to get the brain juices flowing, love ‘em even more. The Battlefield Hardline beta wrapped up a few weeks ago after an open beta period which lasted several days. Cars were totalled, guns were fired and many a donut joke was presumably made as we shuddered at the realisation that our own cops were just as trigger-happy in real life as we were in a game. So here’s the stats, Jack.
Or you can scroll down and check out the much prettier infographic instead. I don’t mind, it’s not like I was up all night typing out those 37 words below. Man, I really need to learn how to touch-type:
- 7 million players
- $2.8 worth of loot stolen from banks in Heist
- 3.8 million vaults busted
- 38 million cars hotwired
- 21 million hotwire takedowns
- 57% of wins for the cops
- $527 billion of cash earned in total
And since I’m feeling generous, here’s a video dev diary which breaks down the beta even further, into more manageable bite-size chunks:
Battlefield Hardline is out March 17 (USA) and 19 (Europe) on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It might also be the first Battlefield game in a long time with a single-player side that I’m actually interested in, thanks to Visceral choosing to not set the game in yet another sandy patch of Iraq.

I’m with you where Shaun of the Dead is concerned but The World’s End was a giant let down. Really not a fitting end to the Ice cream trilogy.

But were they all hotwired in under 60 seconds or less?
Admiral Chief
February 23, 2015 at 09:14
Imagine that, you use micro-transactions to hotwire faster…

The funniest thing for me in the book was Asterix and Getadix’s fascination with Cleopatra’s nose 😀 Also, Obelix bombarding the Romans with 1 ton stone blocks and going “Bonnng! Bonnng! Bonnng!”
Admiral Chief
February 23, 2015 at 09:35
Indeed, that is one of my top 5 Asterix books!

Here’s mine :
Asterix in Britain (Brilliant film too)
Asterix the Legionary
Asterix and the Golden Sickle
Asterix and the Laurel Wreath
Asterix and the Big Fight

ZICAGTLY, YOU ARE FERPECTLY RIGHT!
Except replace Golden Sickle with the Cleopatra book and we have the same list
Matewis Jubilai
February 23, 2015 at 09:41
Yes! That was the best part of the Laurel Wreath, the way Obelix and Vitalstatistix gradually get sloshed at Impedimenta’s asshole of a brother’s house in Lutetia. Can you do a top5 Tintin list?

Hmmmm, let me think.
The moon-story arc is my favourite of all time, I loved the crystal balls one too (Llama eating beard and spitting at Haddock still cracks me up) and OHTHEREISTOOMANYTOCHOOSEAFAVOURITE!!!
You?
Matewis Jubilai
February 23, 2015 at 09:55
Lol, a top5 is impossible, especially because of the story archs over two books, but if we agree to lump those together then:
1.) The Secret of the Unicorn + Red Rackham’s treasure (which contains the part that slays me each time: captain Haddock reliving his ancestor’s fight on the Unicorn and absolutely wrecking his apartment in the process :’D)
2.) Destination Moon + Explorers on the Moon;
3.) 7 Crystal balls + Prisoners of the Sun (Like you said: Captain Haddock slapping the Llama across its face :’D but the story freaked me out a lot too)
4.) The Calculus affair (omg the piece of sticky tape following Haddock around)
5.) Flight 714 (mostly because of Rastapalous getting gradually wrecked during the course of the book)
* Tintin in Tibet is brilliant too
Admiral Chief
February 23, 2015 at 09:57
Yeah, the Tibet one was really good (do you know what the story behind THAT book is?)
Unicorn arc is my second favourite

Uhm, well there is the Yeti and I’m not sure whether Herge wrote it after the plane crash with the rugby players in the Andes?

No, he had writers block, and the white snow represented his inability to come up with ideas (blank pages)

I still think EA is just cashing up on the name instead of calling it something else entirely. It’s a common marketing trick, and it works, but I guess I thought EA wasn’t that cheap. 😉
Matthew Holliday
February 23, 2015 at 09:47
partly, but people would probably still complain if they gave it another name, saying its just a reskinned battlefield, which it is.

February 23, 2015 at 09:55
oh ya, no chance.
theyll drop it down to R100 eventually, like they did wit bf3 and 4, but premium will forever be more expensive than the actual game.
lesson learned.
