I’m a big believer in that game budgets are getting way, way too big these days. You don’t need to spend enough cash to buy an island fortress in order to make a great game. Just take a look at Payday: The Heist which proved that point. And for the sequel, don’t expect any of that development cash to be spent on tumbling skyscrapers.
“I think we were excited that you didn’t have to be a shooter with a collapsing building to excite people,” Payday 2 game director David Goldfarb said to pixel Enemy.
The world needs things that are different. Payday: the Heist was different and unique. And different in this market of sameness and risk aversion is always a stronger position from a sales and team investment perspective.
The man has a point. I’m currently playing the first game, and it’s actually far better than I expected. Not perfect, but enjoyable noentheless. Thanks chiefly to some solid gameplay ideas taking precedence over out of control visuals and baysplosions..
The bank-robbing sequel drops next month, and if you’re on Playstation Plus, you can grab the original game for free right now.

One of the most fun games I’ve lanned with in AGES! Really draws you in, and extremely addictive.

“different in this market of sameness and risk aversion”
I would stay away from phrases like this when launching a sequel but hey, that’s me
