No GTA V hasn’t been cancelled on PC

Hey put that pitchfork down before you take someone’s eye out. No GTA V hasn’t been cancelled on PC and isn’t likely to be cancelled either.

The Internet erupted this morning when an unknown site, foxweekly, posted up an exclusive with the GTA V marketing company, Rantic, where the Chairman of the company apparently let slip some damning information.

According to John Hoffberger, as I like to call him “The Hoff”

“The next-gen console launch dates are still intact, but the PC game launch has been agitating for Rockstar staff”

and

“Rockstar never wanted to release a PC version of GTA V, but due to high public demand, they were forced to do so”

They then linked to the official Rantic website which appears to have been hacked by 4chan. So two huge things make this an obvious fake. Firstly no marketing company would ever risk their entire company’s reputation by leaking this sort of information to a no-name website and even if they were so incompetent they wouldn’t even know if it was about to be cancelled.

Rockstar are one of the most secretive developers on the planet and the last person who would be given an insight into development issues would be a small marketing company hired to do a bit of work somewhere. Not to mention that Rantic’s website has been down for over a year and the most recent use of the domain was for a pretty awful recording company’s website called Rantic Records.

While we can’t 100% confirm that the PC version isn’t cancelled we can say with 99.99% confidence that the reports of it being cancelled are fake and simply made to drag unwitting traffic into someone’s site. There is absolutely no logical reason why the PC version would be struggling in development either since all games are made on PC and ported to consoles. So seriously, put that pitchfork down.

Are all games made on PC and then ported? Why?

Lots of people develop for “embedded” devices with no OS, so a PS3 or Xbox 360 or whatever that has an OS must be ok. I do not mean plug in a keyboard and go on the console, plug console into PC and develop on that sure, but develop for console straight, compile, debug and so forth on console, surely. AMR processors, TI and so forth all work on this principle. You have a compiler / IDE on the PC, with a cable between your PC and the device and can program the device and even debug code. Yes, until fairly recently (2003?) you wrote code “blind” for the devices, but still code for the devices. Dunno, maybe In read too much into the last statement,

I’m not a games developer but I’m 99.9% sure that all games are developed on a personal computer of sorts and then compiled for the platform.. same as iPhone apps are made on a Mac not on an iPhone

Neither am I a games developer, but embedded dev, with no OS, I know something about. Also, urk, some (basic!!!!) Assembly and different CPU’s really are, well, different. But that is all low level stuff.

Maybe they have decent frameworks, but I would think the whole point of a console is to run on the hardware as much as possible, with as little interference as possible.

But, I think we are, in essence, saying the same thing, develop on PC, sure, but not RUN on PC

I think the devs compile the Game and run it native on the console.. just like you can for Android Apps (adb)

This article is not accurate. It makes sense for rockstar to cancel PC version of Grand theft auto 5

Hey, Technically gamers are not bots, just have difficulty expressing real emotion. Well other than joy at killing the last monster, on the last level, of the last dungeon. Or despair at same

Wooden, rather than bots, I think you will find, is the more PC term.

What stupid news is this. There has been a PC version for every major GTA game. The PC version gets released about 6 months up to a year after console release. That is not going to change with GTA 5.

The PC version was being developed even before GTA V came to ps3/360, according to the devs’ own coding comments, about 3 months before release they decide to cancel it, yeah sure.
    Go home, Hoffberger you’re drunk.
