As we mentioned last week when the PS4 failures started rolling in, these initial failures are to be expected since all high tech device has a certain failure rate. What’s important however is how many of the consoles are failing.
Well it’s still early days for both contenders but at the moment it appears that the PlayStation 4’s failure rate is settled sub 1% and we all have to admit that we were going to look closer at the Xbox One failures due to them totally screwing up the Xbox 360’s first batch.
Well today Microsoft has admitted what we reported on earlier and that is that the Xbox One is suffering from a optical drive issue where the drive is making a really loud noise and not accepting disks.
According to Microsoft
“The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers. We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program. Rest assured, we are taking care of our customers.”
However according to Kotaku, who finally posted gaming news again, the problem feels more widespread. When the PS4 failures started they received a few dozen emails from readers. However this time around that count has topped 150. Again people are paying closer attention so this could be a result of that… or has Microsoft dropped the ball again?
I wonder if the guys and girls with a Day One Xbox get a Day One Xbox as their replacement?
