Everytime I see a trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV, I want that game more. It is seriously looking beautiful. Now, we get better insight into the character of Edward Kenway and his story.

First things first, here is the trailer:

For those who can’t or won’t watch, the trailer starts with the dangers of being a pirate, followed by the moral uncertainty of that life. Moving forward, we get to hate authority figures and root for the assassin, as would be expected. We get some deeper understanding of Kenway’s motivations as a character, as well as the general storyline of Assassin’s Creed IV.

Ubisoft has certainly learned its lesson after ACIII – no more moral high ground and irritating main character. I’m honestly looking forward to playing the game as Edward Kenway – pick up pirate wenches, search for booty (treasure, by the way), and kill anyone who expects me to do otherwise. Awesome.

Good luck finishing three. Took forever. Not the most exhilarating story on Earth. And the lead protagonist is about as interesting as an ant carrying a grain of sand up a mountain while singing a little song to itself (which, of course, you cannot hear). You could probably skip it, to be honest. That story arc is over, anyway.

Yeah. Total rush job. I bet you they had a pretty grand finale planned. But then they ran out of time and needed something that would just do.

Trilogies never end well in gaming. It’s fast becoming the norm. Unless I’ve completely missed an awesome trilogy…

Mass Effect had an excellent ending…if one was wise enough to wait for the extended cut like I did!!

It was still red, blue, or green though…
The extended cuts just gave you more closure. But it didn’t help the structural problems that were already there. Look.. I suppose they were okay. I could walk away without bitterness. But it could have been truly great. It could have been the most inclusive ending ever.

And all that effort to reconcile the Geth and the Quarians? Ultimately a pointless and futile exercise that really felt like I wasted my life. I should have just annihilated one race entirely and selected that required ending to ensure their preservation come end of ME3.

I really felt invested in the three endings. I knew my Paragon guy would take synthesis, but until the end I thought my pure Renegade would destroy, but I couldn’t destroy the Geth because I liked legion so much and chose control. My middle-path soldier did what any soldier would do: he followed orders and chose destroy, even after the Quarians had been sacrificed haha. I was truly drawn in and loved the endings. Had full closure on all my characters.

I was just pissed that after having to make a choice between sacrificing the Quarians or the Geth, I had to choose again to let the Geth perish or not in the end as well. That was my ‘biggest dick move in a video game’ moment ever.

My renegade play was first – that caught me totally off-guard! I gave the “I am done saving you from the Geth”-speech and they made peace. Then I get here and I get to destroy the Geth I like so much? Biggest phallus move indeed!!

Gotta finish 3 first (still on my To Do list – sitting in my cupboard waiting for me to finish GTA V). But this seriously looks good! Only question is – which platform to buy it on? Do I get it on 360 when it launches? Or do I wait and get it on PS4 possibly next year? Decisions, decisions…

For some reason, this feels like Sons of Anarchy on the Sea. Kenway aka Jax Teller. Badass blonde boy struggling with his own inability to adhere to the norms and structures of society, while hating a strict code of brotherhood and whatnot.

Anyway. I’m always down for taking out some Brits and generally marauding, pillaging, looting, and generally blowing stuff up. These trailers are swaying me to the preorder side of the room. Must. Resist.

Anyone else think that Matt Ryan is doing a pretty bang up job of giving Kenway some soul? They clearly learnt from their mistakes in the last AC.
