Japan, what have you done to the Avengers?

Marvel_Disk_Wars_The_Avenge

Just because western markets have a habit of butchering classic movies and TV shows from other countries, it doesn’t mean that our content is safe either. Take for instance the latest anime starring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (A trademark of Disney Inc.), in which Japan finally enacts their revenge for the remake of 47 Ronin.

Here’s a stack of screenshots showing off the new character designs of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and more from Kotaku. Don’t think the designs look so bad? Well here’s the synopsis for Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers:

Avengers (1)Avengers (2)Avengers (3)Avengers (4)Avengers (5)Avengers (6)Avengers (7)Avengers (8)Avengers (9)Avengers (10)Avengers (11)Avengers (12)Avengers (13)Avengers (14)Avengers (15)Avengers (16)Avengers (17)Avengers (18)Avengers (19)Avengers (20)

Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers" will be produced by Nerima-ku, Tokyo-based Toei Animation Co., Ltd., which has produced multiple successful animated series for kids in Japan. Taito-ku, Tokyo-based Bandai Co., Ltd., which has a highly successful track record with major titles, will be responsible for character merchandising. The three companies will collaborate in creating a fully localized Japanese series as well as providing a lineup of attractive products and merchandise targeting the boys market.

The story will revolve around how the Avengers–Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk together with the help of Spider-Man and a group of teens–will harness their respective fighting skills and superhuman powers to foil Loki’s scheme to take over the world. "Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers" will target boys in the 6-12 age group.

I think Yoghurt said it best in Spaceballs: MOICHENDISING! I’m not one to begrudge kids a cartoon, but hell, this one is sinking to He-Man levels of merchandise-shilling. And this sounds like a Marvel version of Betblade. Freakin’ Beyblade. The horrible cartoon about spinning top battles. No, just no dammit.

Because he's the writer that Lazygamer deserves, but not the one it actually needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can't take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a loud-mouthed journalist, a watchful procrastinator. A dork knight.
  • Kensei Seraph

Haha. I have to watch this just to see how bad it will be.

    • Hammersteyn

      Same

  • Just Saying

I think they will target older boys as well…

  • Kromas

I have seen the Wolverine Anime as well as the X-Men anime and based on those I see no problem so far.

  • Norm the Horrible

    Lol!

  • Samildanach

At least Spiderman fulfills his role in the Avengers as he should!

    • Hammersteyn

Still missing Vision and Wolverine though, but yeah finally some Avenger love for Spidey

    • Matthew Holliday

i love spiderman as a character, but as an avenger, meh, hes made redundant by so many other heros.
never been a fan of his comics, but his part in the Civil War saga was crazy good, which had more to do with his character than his powers.

  • ToshZA

It’s an anime version of the Avengers. What’s so bad about that? The world isn’t ending. At least ours isn’t. In the Avengers the world is always ending.

    • Warren Ross

I think it looks pretty cool, actually.

  • Johann

Captain USA looks like Megaman… I love Anime and Manga but I think they should stick to their own stuff

  • A 2 Cthulhu?

    Avengarru desu!

  • Lydon McG

Am I missing something? What’s so bad about it?

Am I missing something? What’s so bad about it?

  • Matthew Holliday

Their mistake was only going half anime.
would have been much better if they went full retard

  • Dutch Matrix

Goblin has a sad. Maybe they showed Spider-Man 3 at the Looney Bin

  • Half-Minute Hero [Umar]

Hulk-senpai~ I hope you notice me today!

    • Dutch Matrix

On the subject of the Hulk… it seems they somehow managed to grow Hulk sized fruit. Is that a pineapple he is holding?

      • Half-Minute Hero [Umar]

Lolz!! Besides size, I know he’s Hulk but Pineapples are hard to hold that way, they’re so prickly too…

  • Lykan2010

Better than what I thought when I say the first image.
Was convinced the Avenger had be transformed into some kind of Pokemon or Digimon type cluster-s*x-explosion.
As for the multitude of action figures which will invariably flood the market… Somewhere out there are people hiding in their parents basements who will buy at least 2 of each.
One to play with and on to keep “mint” in the box – you know for collectors value…
