It may be Star Wars day on Sunday, but it’s Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, and that takes precedence in my book. Dyslexic aliens be damned, this is one of my favourite days of the year and not because I’m a completely cheap bastard.
Iron your cape and don a cowl, because May 3 will see various local retailers join the global celebration of Free Comic Book Day. It’s not about getting free comics at all really, even though various publishers have plenty of them to give away, but to just hang out, talk shop and introduce younger fans to some good reading.
So who’s taking part? The following stores will be showing some love for the medium. I’ll update the list as the day goes on, but you can expect these retailers to be ready for the hordes on Saturday:
Johannesburg
Pretoria
Cape Town
Readers Den will be having their annual cosplay competition as well, so throw on some fancy duds and you could walk out with a prize or two. If you know of anyone else who is taking part, drop a comment below and I’ll add them to the article.
Don’t forget to show some love to the chaps working the counter on Saturday. Give ‘em a hug and whisper Hail Hydra in their ears. And have a rocking day!

I wandered in there a month or so ago. It was difficult to walk out without buying anything.

Please please tell me where this is from??? It’s not like I am obsessed about Deadpool or anything, but I was kind of miffed to see him not in the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice…

I think it’s Ultimate Spider-Man. But correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s from Ultimate Spider-Man but not sure which 1.

Imagine my disappointment when I got there and there was no Clark Kent or Superman.

But aren’t you Superman disguised as Clark Kent disguised as John?

I so badly wanted to go to Smallville Comics. Then a friend mailed me a few pics of what the store looks like inside and I decided NOT to go.
I cannot bear to embarrass myself by crying like a spoilt brat who could not get everything he wanted. So I did the second best thing and mail ordered meself a Power Girl Cover Girl Statue instead…

As is Game Over in the Vaal at River Square shopping centre located in Three Rivers. I am not one hundred percent sure about the location of their other branches though…
