I don’t think there’s any clearer example of how gaming has changed distribution models over the years, than the example found in the PC industry. Think about it: Years ago, you’d pop down to an actual shop, buy a big box that was jammed with various maps, pamphlets and goodies (FOR FREE), head home and install it. These days however, everything is digital baby! But for the physical PC release of GTA V, that franchise is keeping things old school.
That’s according to the Russian version of the game, where the following picture of the hard copy release was snapped and posted on Reddit:
It’s bulky, massive and it’ll most likely be a minor inconvenience to install. Sweet Christmas, I love it. Another image was posted on Twitter yesterday, further sealing the legit deal:
It’s almost happening. #GTAVPC pic.twitter.com/mG2PjqI5GL
— Grand Theft Feed (@GrandTheftFeed) April 8, 2015
There’s just something that I like about having a big box that sits on my shelf. Something to show off, to be proud of. And judging by the size of that box, it looks like the talk of GTA V being a 65 gigabyte game on PC was no joke. Hell, the remastered version is over 50 gigabytes on my PlayStation 4, while the Xbox One version requires you to duct-tape several Microsoft consoles together according to intelligence which is probably very, very wrong.
But having a vintage box like that displayed in my gaming area? I’d freakin’ love to put it next to my original Mortal Kombat, Wing Commander and Final Fantasy 8 displays. I know you guys also have a display or two of your own. Soun ‘em off in the comments below.

Hate to break it to you, but usually, If it activates on steam, you need to download the last 10-12% of the game, so that’s still a 6 – 8 GB download.
PestControl
April 9, 2015 at 11:38
Usually if you buy the physical copy of the game it’s not linked to steam except when explicitly stating that it requires steam as well. Not sure if it’s the case with GTA V though… regardless 8GB is way less than 65. Seeing as I also own TESO I spent the last days downloading that in stead.

will start by saying im a diehard member of the master race.
but consoles are so much easier, spend 6k now, lasts you untill the ps5.
but spend 10k on a pc now, then you have to spend 3k on another graphics card 18 months later, then another 3k on a new graphics card 18 months after that. the graphics card in a R10k pc is going to end up being the minimum req 12 months after you buy it.
blow a psu, because eskom is loadshedding and you didnt want to drop R2500 on a UPS, which chain reactions your HDD to death, spend another R1200-2000 on replacements.
need more ram a while after that, R1500 again.
3 years later, youve saved R10 000 on games, but spend R10 000 extra on hardware.
its a curse.
Captain JJ the flash noob
April 9, 2015 at 12:13
Nah. If you buy smart it doesn’t really work like that. My pc is two years old. 8k PC.
Not looking at upgrading anytime soon as it’s on par with the consoles.
And I enjoy my variety of games way too much, that’s actually the main reason why I like PC. The price of the games also makes me happy.
Captain JJ the flash noob
April 9, 2015 at 12:16
But. As you say. The urge to splurge is real. I can’t afford to splurge now, otherwise I know I would’ve spent way more than 12k by now. 🙂
Matthew Holliday
April 9, 2015 at 12:20
2 years ago it was possible, its about timings, back then the dollar was at R7/8, now its nearly at R12, its a tad more difficult.
an R9 270 still costs R2500ish, which is a year old and locally, because of the exchange rate increasing, is still at the same price as it was at launch.
if you recycle parts from your upgrade, like cases, psu, HDD etc, its possible. but not from scratch.
Matthew Holliday
April 9, 2015 at 12:22
a usable PC after 2 years is realistic, but one with performance to match the results you get on console, doubtfull.

Yup that’ll be possible:
After putting copies of song selections into a specific folder, you
can listen to them on the Self Radio station. An auto scan will identify
new songs as you add them upon starting the game.
Players have a few different options for listening to these custom
soundtracks. You can play them sequentially, shuffle the collection, or
have Rockstar integrate them into a radio experience complete with
commercial breaks, station IDs, bumpers, and banter between DJs Cliff
Lee and Andee, who you may remember from Lips 106 in Liberty City
Stories. In the pause menu you can choose whether you want to have the
songs play in the order you have them in the folder or to let the game
analyze the collection and build a playlist order.
