We really don’t give enough attention to other mobile gaming devices here on the site. But with the recent announcement of powerhouse tablet devices, cell-phones and more efficient operating systems, it looks like these overlooked items may be getting more advanced games to their library, titles which will provide hours of fun and actually be more contemporary and in line with what us PC and console gamers are experiencing.

The first such title? Why none other than Grand Theft Auto 3, the game that defined the sandbox genre and led the way for numerous copycats. Liberty City is once again our psychopathic playground, and this time, we’re going to have even more action in our hands.

"Grand Theft Auto III showed us the potential of open world games", said Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser. "It helped set the vision for the company, and we have been expanding on those possibilities with every game ever since."

Planned platforms for the adapted release of GTA III will be on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S for any Apple user. Android phones, the Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix and Samsung Galaxy S2 will be able to play the game as well.

As for Android tablets, anyone who owns an Acer Iconia or Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom and a Samsung Galaxy 10.1, will be able to terrorise Liberty City in portable high definition.

GTA III also celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, and Rockstar has teamed up with renowned collectible figure maker Sideshow, to release a celebratory figure of protoganist(or antagonist, depending on the way you play) Claude, with accessories and clothes ripped straight from the classic game. It won’t be cheap though, so expect to shell out $149.99 for it.

I’ve been on the fence lately about adopting a tablet device, but if they’re capable of allowing games and programs of this magnitude on them, I might just finally have tipped on over to their side.
