Brutal

What does every game need these days? A monolithic wave of enemies that get increasingly more difficult on a specific multiplayer stage? Erm, well yes, apparently they do. The upcoming Fuse from Insomniac Games is going to have just such an online mode. And it’s going to be brutal.

In a developer update, Insomniac spoke about how the Echelon mode in Fuse had been giving games media a hard time as of late, with most people failing to even finish seven out of ten levels in that mode.

“We want this game to be hard – Echelon especially so. However, difficulty is a very fine balance,” Insomniac wrote.

On one hand, you want to challenge people so they feel as if they are accomplishing something. But on the other, you don’t want to frustrate players to the point of quitting. Things become trickier when you factor in co-op that can accommodate anywhere from one to four human players.

Insomniac has tweaked the mode further after it sent various game media crying back home, and have thrown in monsters that can deal and absorb as much damage as when a player takes on the single-player campaign in Hard or Lethal mode.

Early waves will still remain easy in order to most likely lull players into a false sense of security, before later stages unleash hell itself on gamers.

Fuse doesn’t have a solid release date yet, but it’s expected on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 soon.
