Final Fantasy XV getting bigger than anticipated

FFXV 2

News about Final Fantasy XV seems to be coming fast and loose these days. Director Hajime Tabata is much more candid about what’s going on, making fans happy to know that progress is continuing as compared to the prolonged silence on the matter we had for years. Here is some more news about the upcoming demo, and the overall size of the game.

Speaking to Kotaku, Tabata explained that while originally they had said that the teaser would be about a fifth of the total game, that no longer applies.

I do want to give you a clean answer in terms of the percentage of how much the Duscae region holds within the entire world, but working on the Duscae region, it’s become bigger than we anticipated. So in terms of the percentage that we had envisioned before, we’re understanding that it’s shifting significantly. We can’t really—we don’t have a number at the moment, because it’s hard to gauge within the entire world.
Originally, we were aiming so that the entire [FFXV] story could potentially be cleared within 40 hours. But looking at the current volume of what’s becoming available, it’s looking harder and harder to clear within that time. So it’s something that we’re gauging right now and trying to work around.

I am really excited for Type-0 – not just for the game itself, but also for the FFXV demo. Of course, news surrounding the demo keeps changing. At first it was marketed as coming with the game, then as a pre-order bonus. Will Type-0 come packaged with a code? Well, maybe not.

In terms of when consumers will be able to play the demo, it hasn’t been officially announced but we’ve mentioned in Japan that we’re working very hard towards making it available around the timing of when Type-0 HD releases. So that’s our current goal. You’re probably gonna write that, aren’t you? (laughter) It’d be great if you can [talk about] Type-0 first, before you talk about that. (laughter)
Just to give you additional insight to that, the volume is exceeding a little bit more than what we had originally expected—it’s a little bit more than what we were originally planning. So in that sense we needed a little more time to implement that, and we’re working towards really trying to meet that goal right now.

Hm, so we might not even get the demo right away. Well, Type-0 should take a while to complete, right? Hopefully by the time I’m done with the game, the demo for FFXV will be available. At least the demo itself is growing – I like hearing that it’s going to be a sizable chunk of the game, not just an hour or two of out-of-context gameplay.

Are you still excited for Final Fantasy titles, or were you burnt too much in the past?

I’d like to see more demos these days. That was a huge factor in my buying decisions before they were replaced with DRM and Early Access.

Saying that, if this game lives up to the hype, I might consider jumping back in to the series. Haven’t played any since X-2

You didn’t play Final Fantasy 12? That one was pretty solid. Vastly different to any FF but still a good RPG.

I think it would live up to the hype. But ff series fell off after 12. I have all 3 14 games and really didn’t like them that much.

Too bad there isn’t a roman numeral for S. We’ll never get to see FFS

Still very much excited…Yoko on music is escalating excitement levels at the speed of light…The interview was pretty interesting, hopefully we hear more with Thursday’s new ATR. A part of me is confident this game will live up to the hype, but that part of me is the same that desperately wants it to succeed…I don’t consider myself a blind fanboy of the series, but it is dear to my heart. Looking forward to March.

Pretty much adopting a ‘wait and see’ policy with FF titles now, even though Type-O really sounds pretty cool… Will still rather wait and see finished product, reviews, etc.

FFXIII is still too fresh in my mind… **shudders**

Personally I don’t trust User reviews. It’s either filled with mindless hate or blind fanboyism. I find it hard to really ascertain which user reviews I can trust.

Same here, but at least with a demo I can get my own impression, FF XV is free though (with Type-0 lol)

Demos can be a bit misleading though. They could just put out an exciting part of the game as a demo, meanwhile the rest of the game is crap. Imagine if the demo of FFXIII was that open section on Pulse; not the 40 hour corridor simulator before it.

What they can put in the demo is how the combat will work which is extremely important

To think that series has been with us since the NES days. So this being no.15 means we don’t see one every year. Unlike the luke warm poop EA shovels every year.

Agreed. I used to LOVE CoD, until Black Ops 2 came out. After that, all downhill from there. I have a deep mistrust in titles that are released once a year, or hammered into the marketplace in relative quick succession, such as the FF games, or AC.

This game is sounding massive in every way. I’m actually excited about a Final Fantasy game again. Been waiting for the day that feeling returned. Type-O alone sounds like its going to be an experience. Just please let FF15 be everything the fans have been asking for and more like the FF games used to be.

I’m not sure I’m keen on a demo containing too much of the final game. There is still going to be quite a wait between the demo and final game and if the game is awesome that break is going to be torture and also the story won’t be as fresh. I’m fine with demos just giving me an idea of what gameplay is like; show me a town, dungeon area and a boss fight. End demo.

P.S. If I have to see one more tired joke of this not being the final fantasy or how many final fantasies can there be I might just…well I won’t do anything but roll my eyes and lose faith in the ability of gamers to make actual witty jokes. But seriously people, educate yourself as to why the games are called Final Fantasy.

Dude I’m seeing you in all the gaming info websites I use xD (well I only use 3 xD)

Final fantasy XIII was good but not one of my top, lightning was really badass, which works well with me :3 and the gameplay and combat was good as well, but as far as the story goes, it’s more of a meh for me. But because I don’t think really dog that futuristic kind of stuff, for me, my last good final fantasy was XII (or IX-X really..).

I like the OST, but that’s like in every FF and the graphics, well, can’t complain tbh, I used to play with a green square and a red circle so xP
