Final Fantasy XIII-2 coming on just one disc

Man, it must have been terrible for Xbox 360 gamers, having to actually get up a whole twice in the dozens of hours it took to finish the 3-disc Final Fantasy XIII. Think of all that extra time they could have spent just playing the game instead of being subject to the herculean nuisance of disc-swopping.

It’s ok guys…you won;t have to get up once  for Final Fantasy XIII-2.

According to Andriasang, the newest issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu reports that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will ship on just once disc. While that might dissuade fans who thinks Square is rushing the game out with very little content, the reason for the lower storage needs is that they’ve ditched the hours of pre-rendered CGI, opting instead to render everything in-engine. This is excellent news for Xbox 360 owning Final Fantasy fans, because the heavily compressed CGI video from the last one looked horrible, compared to the HD video PS3 owners got to experience, thanks to the power of the Cell storage capacity offered by Blu-ray.

One advantage of going in-engine is that changes in your equipment reflect in the cut-scenes, which adds to the immersion. Of course, it does give PS3 owners the opportunity to moan again how the Xbox 360 ruined Final Fantasy.
