The Silent Hill movie that was released in 2006, directed by Christophe Gans and written by Roger Avary really surprised me when I watched it a few years ago.

Not only did it serve as one of the best game-to-movie adaptations that we’ve ever seen, but it was actually a pretty decent Horror movie all on its own. Well game and movie fans’ dreams (or is it nightmares?) of a sequel are coming true.

More information on cast and plot after the jump.

The new film directed by Michael J. Bassett started shooting today in Toronto, Canada and will be titled Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.

Taking the lead will be semi-unknown actress Adelaide Clemens and despite the excerpt on Eurogamer’s headlines calling her an “X-Men Origins star”, she was in fact, only responsible for a small part credited as Carnival Girl, and no they don’t mean that in a Bat-girl or Super-girl sort of way.

The film will be produced by the same folks responsible for Resident Evil: Afterlife and they’ve given us a little bit of info as far as the plot is concerned, here’s what they had to say:

“For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand.”

“Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.”

They also sent that image (the one in the header) of lead-actress Clemens looking surprisingly emo for someone who is about to pop a cap in someone’s ass.

Now, even though I’m a massive fan of the first movie, I’ve never really been into the games themselves and only know the bits and pieces that I picked up every time my wife (big fan) was playing one of them. My first ever review on Lazygamer was actually for Silent Hill on the PSP, and it annoyed me so much that I actually referred to it as a “walking simulator” as all you seemed to do was walk around and avoid everything.

The question is, what do you fans out there think about the direction of the movie, does it sound like it’s headed in the right direction. I’ve seen a few comments saying that the plot is very Silent Hill 3-ish.

Tell us what you think and impress us with your vast knowledge of the franchise.
