Dragon Age: Inquisition followers have personality

Every Bioware companion has a unique personality, but I found the Dragon Age ones to be a bit two dimensional at times. It seems that Dragon Age: Inquisition is making each one much more interesting, and after watching this trailer I might be developing a bit of a crush on Iron Bull.

Here is the latest trailer using actual captured gameplay footage:

The video looks at three companions: Iron Bull, Sera and Dorian. Iron Bull leads a bunch of Qunari mercenaries. He is a ridiculously powerful warrior, who also likes to booze it up at the tavern – something unusual for Qunari. While I loved my Qunari companions in previous Dragon Age games, this one certainly seems a lot more interesting than previous characters. Sera is actually a criminal, leading her followers to fight for the Inquisition to defend those she sees as caught in the crossfire, the innocent victims. With deadly ranged combat, she will be excellent in the high ground, and seems to have quite a feisty and unpredictable approach to her enemies. Finally, there’s Dorian, a powerful mage from an important family. He fights to redeem his homeland and is excellent at keeping the party healthy, or opening up new lines of attack in combat.

I will probably add Iron Bull to my party – he looks like a worthwhile tank and should probably be aligned to how I tend to play these games. I’m not to sure about the other two; I will certainly need a mage in the group, but I’ll have to weigh my options and see which one is best for my play style. Sera will probably spend most of her time at Skyhold; while she seems excellent at ranged combat, that’s not usually where my party falls short. However, with the new game and enhanced combat, I might find my usual party set ups changing.

Do any of these characters appeal to you, or will you be waiting for others like Varric or Cassandra to be shown off in more detail?

If I can’t hack it to death, it doesn’t get played.

Not looking at videos, not looking, not looking.

I think planning now might not be as fruitful as when you get the game. Sure, I tend to play in a certain way, so my followers must fill my shortcomings. 3 mages and a fighter? Maybe. Could be fun. Or a thief, 2 mages and a combo class? with thief and combo making one fighter together?

Edit: are there even combo classes? Trying so hard not to look at detail

They really went to town with those GPU particles, didn’t they? Particles are to this gen what bloom and specular maps were to last gen

Why are they so shiny? To distract from potential shallowness? ;P

Depends on my play-through. If I play with my ruthless warrior, I will probably skip Iron Bull because that will be my role. If I play with my good guy warrior, he might be needed. Or for my “do whatever I want” rogue.

I won’t be basing my party make up completely on strategy. You have to consider story content as well when deciding who to bring with you on certain missions because depending on the mission/location etc. different companions will have exclusive content they bring along with them. Now, considering that, would I choose the mage or rogue I need to make combat easier over another companion who’ll make the story elements of the mission unique? Nope. I’m all about story

I’m going to neglect mages because I hate all the colorful magic being shot everywhere, they ruin the seriousness of the game and especially the trailers. swordsmen, Rogues, and archers are good enough. I MIGHT have ONE mage. maybbbeeee
